he needs to know that you are the master. When you come home do not acknowledge him right away. wait 5-10 min. then acknowledge him. when you feed him make him sit stay and wait for you to tell him it ok to eat, even pretend that you are taking bites of his food. By making him wait and watch you he learns your the dominate one. Also dont let him jump on any furniture until you invite him, when they jump on top of things or if you let them sit on your lap without being invited that makes them feel that they own you. And never hit them. This will not teach them anything but to be afraid of you. have a water bottle that you squirt them with when they act wrong and always praise them for the good.
First, get a clicker (a training device). The goal is to get his undivided attention & make him pay attention. Have him on a leash & sitting next to you. Hold a treat by your face & say "look" or whatever 1 syllable word you want. When he looks at you, click the clicker & give him the treat & a good boy. Have short 6 - 10 minute training sessions 3 times a day. Keep them fun and upbeat. Once he looks at you on command, most other obedience and tricks are easier to train. Just keep the sessions short, fun and give him every opportunity to succeed. And always have small pieces of a really tasty treat to give him (like pupperoni or small cheese squares).
Always show your dog that you love him. Use hand signals and verbal commands. Be consistent. To tell him to stay, hold up your hand and say, "stay." Combine the same hand signal with the same command every time. Use as few words as possible. As my vet told me, give your dog a hug to reward him. Don't use a choke chain - it will reinforce bad behaviors and could hurt your dog
It's all different depending on who the dog is. Some dogs might be attracted to whistling or just calling its name. But probably I recommend you to have a treat with you when you want to make your dog do something in particular.
stare it down and make sure it knows that this is your house and your not going to tolerate disobedience and that your top dog. And don't forget to also let it know that good behavior gets rewarded. be sure your not being too intimidating though cause that makes them growl even more i should know i have two dogs myself.'
give it a treat when he does something good and say the word "treat" when you give the treat to him. Do this with other words and your dog will understand and start listening to you. Say you want to take your dog on a walk. Point to the leash and say "do you want to go on a walk?" then repeat it and it will start to understand what "walk" means. Repeat its name often, too.
Always stay calm. Never yell or hit. Dogs learn best from a positive response vs a negative. Praise is even better than a treat. Routine is good, they will learn what to expect, as they really want to please you. Don't use a kennel for punishment. I could go on and on. I have a pack of 4 and I am the Alpha. If you don't take on the Alpha role, your dog will. I highly suggest watching the Dog Whisper, Cesar Milan. His technique is awesome. You will learn how to read your dog, before it does bad things. Hope this helps.
