I've been treating my dog for scabies for a year now. Every time I stop treatment it returns. Help!!!

My dog hates me because I'm always catching her to apply some kind of medicine. We tried Happy Jack Kennel dip once a week for 4 weeks. We stop it comes back. Then we tried revolution drops applied every 2 weeks for 4 treatments (8 weeks). Again if I stop it returns. So, even though it's VERY expensive I just keep using the drops. Abby is a large, shaggy 13 year old mixed breed dog.

The problem with infestations is not treating and getting rid of the pests by topical treatments, shampoos or medications, but it's much more challenging to prevent being re-infected.

Due diligence would include frequently washing bedding, vacumming, and disinecting areas where the dog spends his time .. as well as shampooing regularily and/or using some sort of pet deterant on the dog.

You need to seek a vet's advice since scabies must be treated under veterinary supervision. Researchers have found out that some scabies mites have developed resistance to some prescriptions. However, the mites usually spend their entire life on a dog.

Thanks to all. My dog is under the care of a vet. I have spent a small fortune lately. She does great as long as i treat her, as soon as I stop, in a couple of weeks it starts right back. She also has heartworms ( yes she's on treatment) and therefore, we're limited on treatment options.
