What's a difference between a lollipop and a candy?

A lollipop is any hard candy with a stick in it.

Candy is a general term for all candy, sweets and chocolate; whereas a lollipop is hard candy with a stick in it so you can pick it up and lick/suck/bite it (biting is inadvisable).
