Some people dont think this works but it helps me get to sleep. eat about 1-2 hours before going to bed, It helps your stomach settle. If you are having trouble with waking up in the middle of the night, and if the following doesn't help you, try having a cup of tea or warm milk - sometimes it tricks your stomach into not wanting to eat. Make sure you are clean (a shower before bed really calms me down). If you have a smartphone (or tablet or Ipad or whatever) Look up 'Weightless' by Marconi Union. A study has shown that the beat and melody cause a state of relaxation and calm, slowing your heartbeat and allowing you to slip into sleep. Don't worry, it isn't dangerous, although don't listen to it while driving as motorists have been warned not to (Just make sure your in bed, or a comfy - stationary - chair. I hope this helps!
Try to relax before bed. Avoid caffiene after about 1 or 2pm, and find a way to calm down. Eat a filling dinner or snack, and try tea. If the quality of your sleep isnt good (meaning you are a very light sleeper) try melatonin, which helps you sleep better.
Regulate your sleep schedule, a routine, perhaps try melatonin. As for eating you need to control yourself, you choose to eat, you can choose not to as well. More than likely you're just bored eating anyways. Water will fill you up if you must consume something.
It sounds nasty (and sometimes tastes nasty), but drink warm milk if you wake up in the middle of the night or before you go to bed. Also try eating cheerios because theres something in them that makes you want to sleep.
