Where we come from and our experiences in life shape the person that we will become. However it's what we do with those experiences, and how we learn (from the good and the bad), that really makes us who we are.
Noooo it doesn't Hun! The past helps you become who you are today, yes.. However, you are a completely different person than you were in your past. There are good and bad things that happen in our past but it doesn't define you. It just help you come who you are. Don't ever let your past define you because you are who you are currently, you're not the person you were even a year ago.
My past holds many good and bad memories for me.It serves me with many lessons and reminders and in many ways has shaped and moulded me into who I am today and how I choose to live.I do not however, allow myself to be enslaved to my past nor do I relive it.It doesn't restrict me in any way nor does it affect or influence my present and my future.
The past is just a memory, the present is a gift and the future is but a dream. Shut the door on your past. You never forget your past however, you are not to dwell on it, rather learn from it. To answer your question, no your past does not define you. We all have a past to learn, grow and change the mistakes we might have made...
Only as a learning tool. Never forget the painful lessons you learnt the hard way but trust in yourself that these events have given you insight so you can guide yourself to a better healthier balanced future where the only thing that holds you back from growing is the reins you hold & choose when to pull in. & when to release. The human heart is never really broken. It just becomes too dependent sometimes. Not every journey you embark on will take you where you want to go but it is what you learn along the way that determines the person you come out on the other side as.
