Does anyone else think that the US has really lost its patriotism?

especially in kids. when people hear that im joining the army they always say something like "Why would you even think of dying for people?". im 13 and some kids cant even hang out with me anymore because their parents obviously hate the people who keep them safe everyday while they lay around in air conditioning playing CoD. ive even been told by many adults that killing innocent babies would bring me nowhere in life. it is actually kinda bringing me down alot. has anybody else realized that?

Being a Vietnam Vet, I have heard all of that baby-killing nonsense. If you're brave and love your country, you will not think a thing of laying down your life for it. There will always be people who lay around and criticise the Military. Follow your heart and do what YOU think is best. Yes, a lot of people have lost their patriotism. They are also the ones that complain the most when something happens and the Military saves their butts.

What people need to grasp in their little brains is the ENEMY straps bombs onto THEIR children and have them walk into a group of soldiers to blow up. The soldiers have no choice. But the enemy killed them the minute they told the child to do it. I'm really shocked at the absurd ignorance people have to not understand that.

There are always people that are against the military and has been for hundreds of years but most Americans are very patriotic and respect the military. I would say the ones against it are just more vocal a lot of the time. Also the country goes through ups and downs we come together during things like 9/11, boston bombing, etc but can become less patriotic when it is not on our minds. You will also see more or less patriotic people depending where you live. Go to texas and say you want to join the military and then go to California and say the same thing. I am sure it will be very different responses.

This country ONLY unites during tragedies...then we go back to huge egos and feuding afterwards. Sadly the freedoms of our once great country are dying and patriotism only shows on the 4th of July. Ive seen military news OVERSHADOWED by dogs burping the alphabet on local news....very sad!

I blame a lack of good parenting. My kids are taught that America is the greatest country on earth and that they are to say "Thank you for your service" every time they see anybody in uniform. WE live near a giant Air Force base and we see Airmen all over town, my kids will run up to them and say it, it always makes the Airmen smile to see kids this young thanking them. it's nowhere near as bad as it was back in the 60's though. During WW2 we treated our soldiers like the heroes that they were, but today everybody's all about celebrities! ... But check this out ...

It made me feel good when people would shake my hand and say Thank you ! You teach your kids well!

I also think it was due to tv. Thats the reason no one really disliked the military until the 60s. Tv came along and made it seem like we were over there destroying villages and raping women all day.

Yeah that too. Left-leaning "journalists" trying to MAKE news instead of just reporting the news.

Some people just can't imagine living like that. I don't know who the people you talk to are but let me just assure you that over here lots of people want to be soldiers when they grow up. One of my buddies that wants to be in the army already is on the school wrestling team, plays paintball in competitions, and has a short haircut. Anyway I think the reason for people not being very patriotic is that they see war as just not very important anymore. In past wars, kids were scared all the time because, if you lived near the coast, there would be routine bomb warnings and you would have to close all your window shutters and turn out the lights. This happened all over the world during WW2.
People in London were terrified of the Germans bombing them. And they did. Nowadays kids are in their own little world and don't understand that war is happening. They feel safe in the US when I can tell you right now that the US still has its dangers. How do you explain 9/11? Pursue your dreams,Army, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Are you sure it's the military they don't like, or just you? Not being mean here but come one.... You're 13 and you talk like militia. Be a kid for a while, it's part of the process of maturing into a stable adult. Best wishes!

Well there's a difference between serving your country and serving corporate entities. A medical researcher serves their country. An engineer serves their country. Lots of people in different professions serve their country. What the heck are you doing in Germany learning morse code for 4 years? Hanging out in Iraq, totally serving your country.

Some of it is happening in schools now days in which they are taught that the U.S. is no better than some small country in the world and if you think an different than there is something wrong with you. Were saying the pledge is causing problems with parents not want it said because someone who just moved here from another country and will be upset if it is said. In schools today how much is taught in U.S. history go into just not read about but talk about it or have people who lived it come in and talk about what it was like then what they went thru at home and being there what it was like. People have lost it along the way.
