How can i convince my high school to add Japanese as another language to our choices?

we only have two choices: French or Spanish. we are able to take ASL if there are enough willing participants but, they will not allow any other language suggestions even though there are a lot of willing participants that want to learn Japanese. they already have a teacher that speaks the language fluently. how can I try to persuade them to add Japanese as another language choice?

Only Spanish and French? My school has those two and German and Latin (I'm in Latin). You could try a petition and see how many people willing to take a Japanese class will sign it. Maybe even the fluent speaking teacher could sign it. If she did, that would catch the attention of the administrators and principal. That's about it. After that, you hope for the best.

All you can do is suggest it. Just because someone can speak it, doesn't mean they can teach it. They also would need to cut something else out of the budget to accommodate you. Then, next year, rearrange their curriculum again. Maybe you can try the Rosetta stone.

1) You would have to come up with a way to earn the yearly salary to pay that teacher. I don't k now what it could be, maybe $30-35 thousand dollars per year (?) , plus other benefits (which aren't much ). You would need to find out what that salary would be first of all. I have heard of towns doing fundraisers and such and petitioning the city and the people in the city for donations to pay the teacher and it has been achieved before .Maybe after one year with the salary paid by others, they would be able to put it in the budget for the next year. But I don't know.

2) II wonder if anyone reading this would know how to petition for a grant to pay this teacher? There a re grants out there but you have to write it up and it's a difficult thing. And it's too late for apply for the grant. But a grant could possibly pay for 3 years. So find a way to pay this teacher and your battle is won.

3) Call your local newspaper and have them do a story about it on the news. That will work on getting the word out. Use social media to spread your fight for this. Good luck .
