What can help me her over my extreme fear of dead bodies?

They scare the living daylight out of me. Especially preserved bodies, like mummies or bodies discovered frozen in ice. They seem to look at me! I'm fine with skeletons, but anything that still has flesh or facial features is gross. It's creeped be out enough that I try to avoid cemeteries. I know it's a stupid fear, but I can't help it. I've prayed to God to show me a way, and maybe his way will come from one of you guys. Thanks!

Fear of death is of two types:
First: it is the nature of human beings is not blameworthy.Death no one can prevent.
Second: blameworthy so the person be careful to stay in his life just for enjoying its pleasures and desires, oblivious to the day of resurrection and related punishment and reward.
Allah Almighty says, "Every self will taste death. You will be paid your wages in full on the Day of Rising. Anyone who is distanced from the Fire and admitted to the Garden, has triumphed. The life of this world is only the enjoyment of delusion,"
The Almighty says, "When their specified time arrives, they cannot delay it for a single hour nor can they bring it forward,"

Firstly, and not to be rude, but if you read the whole description, you would know that I am not Islamic. Secondly, I am not afraid of death. I am specifically afraid of the grotesqueness of dead bodies. I know that's weird, but it's what I'm afraid of.

They are pretty easy to avoid. It's natural to fear them anyway. Natural instinct- if there is a dead body around, our instinct is that there is also danger.

I'm not afraid of the potential danger. Just the gruesome and grotesque sight.

Really? You are feeding into an already unnatural fear.Dead people do not equal danger. You people watch too many zombie movies.

I've never seen a zombie movie or a horror movie. That's why I'm a bit confused with this fear.

I know this may sound a bit cliché, but the best way to overcome this fear is to just except that it's all a part of the life cycle...

But why can't I forget about it?! I know that's how life works, but why can't I forget about the grotesque images?

I've been told that before lol... But honestly that'd be cool wouldn't it...

It would be. It'd be even cooler for you to know that I am a reincarnation of Confucius. That's why I questioned your answer. I wasn't sure if you were trying to mimic the amazing wisdom giver.

I am not trying to be rude, but how often are you coming across dead bodies or hanging out in a cemetery? I mean how much of an issue is it really?

To get over it you need to know why it makes you fearful and deal with that.

I read a lot of ancient history, like Egypt. Once I see the mummy, it stays in my mind forever. I imagine them in walls. I can't get them out of my memory.

I do have to ask why you need to get over this fear. Are you doing something in your daily life that this comes up as an issue? (like working in a mortuary?). If you are watching movies that have these, then don't watch them. Also, just trust your common sense - this is not a situation that you find yourself in on a daily basis - there's no reason for the fear. Just tell yourself that they are dead - nothing will happen to you.

Haha. I've studied ancient Egypt and read other history books, that have pictures of the archeologist's discoveries. But once I've seen the gruesomeness, my brain decides to make the image the highlight of the day. It turns out, my anxiety level is waaaaaaaaay up high, according to my parents. At the sight of a dead body, I'll quickly process all the worst case scenarios. What if it comes alive? What if it attacks me? I know that's ludicrous and ridiculous, but that's what flows through my mind. I haven't watched horror movies, so those can't have influenced me. You see what I'm saying here?

You have no business being around dead bodies. If you are not able to show respect stay away. By the way, grow up.

What are you afraid of? Haven't you ever been to a loved ones viewing?I have kissed many of my loved ones on the cheek as they lay in the coffin,to say goodbye. The body is just a vessel, the afterlife is the reward.Nothing to fear.We all die.Get help if you can't accept it.Fact of life.

I've never been to a viewing, but that's just coincidental. It wasn't my intention to avoid those. I've been to funerals. You actually kiss them on the cheek? I'm not trying to be offensive or anything, but I would just about go paralyzed with fear, and try to hold in the nastiness from my stomach.

What's your relationship status with God? Are you a believer? If not that could be the issue. Are you afraid of dying? Afraid of what your eternal destination is. Pray about this fear to God he will answer and let you know what you need to do.

Ok. Let me clear this up. I am a believer in God. I'm a Christian. I'm not afraid of death or what comes after. I am simply afraid of the grotesqueness of a dead body.

I'd say that you don't need to worry about getting over your fear of dead bodies if it won't really make a difference. Otherwise, I suggest counseling. Face your fears. Know that someday, you will also be a dead body.

Bible answer: " What ever they did in their lifetimes ----loving, hating, envying---is long gone, and they have no part in anything here on earth any more." ( Ecclesiastes 9:6). The way I understand that scripture, people that are dead.
They can not harm you, I was afraid of the dead as well. Until I learned what this scripture said. Actually the truth about the dead has set me free from a life of fear. This answer is for [40dawg] do more research on it so you don't have go thru life being afraid of the dead.

Hey, my name is Daniel too! And thanks for the biblical answer. My parents said the exact sane thing, but I has no idea that there was a scripture specifically for it. And knowing that God said it is even more reassuring. Thanks. Star.
