Do you have to file a police report after you been in a accident?

Report as

If anyone is injured, yes.
If there is property/vehicle damage over $1000 - yes. That dollar amount varies from city to city and county to county so you have to know the rules of that location.
Minor bumps and scratches can be worked out between the parties involved without reporting it to the police....as long as all the parties agree.

Not only should information between drivers be exchanged, you should always call the police when involved in a motor vehicle accident. This is for your protection. I hope you are alright and were not injured...

Here in Cal. you are supposed to file a Police report if the damage is $500.00 or more. You should call them anyway, so they can file a report on whose fault the accident was. Trust me $500.00 damage on a vehicle is hardly anything. Mainly you want that report in case of a lawsuit.

Yeah that $500 adds up real quick....some places have upped it.

Remember, I worked in the Automotive business for almost 35 years and a scraped plastic bumper will run $500.00 or more to replace. Plus it has to be painted to match. Get's expensive!
