Why did they fired joe paterno from pen state?

Speculators tell us that Paterno knew about the pedophilic activities and covered them up. The only reason the public found out about it was because a Penn State student told the police.

He had knowledge of an illegal act and failed to take action against the person he directly hired. Therfore, he is subject to punishment as well.
