You can't get rid of them. People have the right to work or not work, sleep in a house or not, and in general have a right to their dysfunction. The majority of homeless are actually mentally challenged, dual-diagnosis (drug and mental issues) and a few are there by their positive choice. Because we can't impose our ideas of how they should live, I suggest we will always have homelessness. It is the MOST refractive condition known, worse than heroin addiction, because we can at least treat addicts, but we can't take a person's freedom from them without their breaking a law, or their agreement.
maybe we should eat them! or give them the millions of vacant and abandoned houses across the country. ban alcohol. stop raising property taxes that lead to foreclosures. stop letting people have 15 kids they can't feed.... the government is too greedy to ever solve the homeless problem. but that wasn't the question. what should we DO with all of the homeless people... feed them the maximum security prisoners. yep. eat them right up.
Feed them. Try to put them to work. If they will not work when work is available, stop feeding them. Call their family and relatives. Charity begins at home. There is certainly no lack of charitable organizations in our city who want to help those who want help.
Ah, when I think of all the wonderful things the mars rover does I could just scream with disgust that money could feed the poor and house the homeless. We need to get out priorities straight I don't care if there was once water on mars. wow.
Homeless people oft get stereotyped. There are many who have just given up on life. Many are returning military as well as people actually living in poverty. We have fundraisers as well as volunteer at the local shelters to give what we can to make their lives better and hopefully get them back into a healthier happier existence.
It's not about reforming education, or making it cheaper for them to get treatment for their illnesses, etc. If you walk up to a homeless man and tell him he MUST go back to school, he's going to tell you to P**S off. That's insulting, no matter if it's true or not. And because you've insulted him simply by telling him he's required to attend school or go to the doctor or get to the homeless shelter, he's going to tune you out. Most are the way they are simply because they couldn't hack it for one reason or another, and when or IF they decide to try again at life and ask for help from a shelter, that's where they're stuck.
For various reasons, many of those people just cannot function, in society. And there are some who refuse to even try. There is help for the ones who are willing and able, to give it a try. But in this present economy, there is not even enough jobs for the working class.
The state should created shelters for those coming out of incarceration. Unfortunately, many felons walk out with no where to go. Only 200 in their pocket, all homeless needs case management, shelter, job skills training, otherwise they fall back into the same trap. Depending only on government assistance.
