I would say a car or truck made in 1972 or earlier or after 1996. The early cars are easier to work on (and everyone should know at least a little about working on cars) and the later ones are more reliable and have diagnostic ports on them to tell you what's wrong. In between 1972 and 1996 there are all kinds of issues and it's hit and miss. I like Chevys made in the mid 50s to 1972 or Fords made before the mid 50s but they're generally not cheap. They will increase in value though if you get the right one and take good care of it. You can't go wrong with a Black 70 Monte Carlo with a 402 if you can find one and if you have plenty of money for gas. Most (not all) Mopars are crap no matter when they're made.
