Australia has over 20,000 plants with a vascular system, seed-bearing non-angiosperms, and 14,000 non-vascular-type plants. The name of the private plant is the Hakea and is part of the largest angiosperm plant families in Australia. Hakea is part of the Proteaceae family and takes up 5.6% of the flora there. They are similar to the Grevillea and Finschia that is also within the Proteaceae family. They are found throughout the country but more of them are located in the south west and Western Australia. They can reach 1-6 m in height and their leaves from 1-20cm long. They produced dense flower heads of variable shape and with numerous small red, white, yellow, pale blue, and purple. They appear during the months of May until September. They are best grown in light soil that is watered but still drained well. The flower is named after Baron Christian Ludwig von Hake that served as President of the Royal British and Electoral Brunswick-Lunenburgian Privy Council of the Duchies of Bremen and Verden in the years of 1800-1810.
