Taking the water for an example; In the solid state (Ice) it is used for cooling things and freezing. In the liquid state (water), it is used for drinking and driving hydro-dynamic turbines and enter in many other things and applications. In the gaseous state (steam), it can be used in cooking and also in generating power through steam turbines.
Man uses his knowledge of the different states of matter in the storage and transportation of gases and liquids. For instance, man compresses gases into cylinders for easy transport and storage, whereas liquids are conveyed through pipes.
