Has anyone here been to Monticello? ( Jeffersons plantation)

I'm thinking of going, but it's a 5 hour drive from my place (each way) and I'm wondering if you've been there, if there's much to see, and if you think it would be worth the trip.

I've never been, but here's a link to other people's thoughts and experiences.

I have been there several times and yes, it is worth the trip. It is very interesting. The house is not huge but has many rooms and has many of Jefferson's personal inventions. The outside buildings and gardens are good too. Then there is Ash Lawn, the home of James Monroe and Montpelier, home of James Madison only a few miles away from Montecello. Eat at Mitches Tavern nearby: they have great colonial style food, all you can eat for one price.

Hey, thanks. I didn't realize Madison and Monroe were that close. I'll plan a trip to see all three. I'll check out Mitches Tavern too. I appreciate that, really.

Actually Montpelier is more like 15 miles away I think but still close.
