I havent taken my son to the doctors in a while. Could I get in trouble?

Its been almost 2 years since ive taken my son to the doctors. He will be 3 in november. He has a doctors appointment next thursday but im afraid i might get in trouble. Hes always been healthy and everytime hes gotten sick i took him to the emergency room but i dont like giving my son shots that arent required. Im very against all these flu shots that doctors now say are "recomended". So far hes gotten about 10 of his required immunization shots, after that i stopped taking him but im not sure if he needs more. Could i get in trouble? What do i tell the doctor if he asks why i havent taken him in so long?

He might be a bit behind with his immunizations. I'd think a better doctor would try to be understanding and helpful in an effort to get the 2 of you back on track. Since you are trying to do the right thing, I think you will be all right.

If you don't give your son the required shots, then at sometime at school he'll be denied because of a missing shot. Don't worry though, usually if it comes to that time, there is a free immunization around the corner! You'll be fine!

Yes, you can run into issues. At one year old he needed to be on scheduled immunizations. He also should be charted for growth and development. While you don't believe in shots, he won't be allowed in any school without them. You need to get this fixed and up to date.

You should get your sons the shots he needs now so he will not be behind when he starts school.

Do you 'like' children? I'd do so, just to be safe. But if you KNOW he's okay, nobody I going to 'sue' you....

Linda: thanks to nuts like playmate Jenny McCarthy, with no training in epidemiology, as well as Michelle Bachman, spreading miss-information about vaccines, many parents panicked that the vaccine caused things like autism. We even have a segment of the population refusing to get their daughters the HPV vaccine which immunizes girls from the virus that causes cervical cancer. If you've been holding off because of any of these insane scares by people not trained in science, educate yourself and get your child immunized - America and most Western countries have nearly defeated MMR, polio, and other scourges after discovering how to trick our bodies into becoming immune - you can also have your child's overall health assessed. This will help give you peace of mind and possibly prevent anything serious from happening.

There is nothing in any rule book telling us when we have to do anything. For your son's best interests just take him to his scheduled appointment and if they ask why it has been so long, tell them he hasn't been sick and you just did not feel the need to take him. It's that simple. Don't be afraid of anything.

Linda they will just book him in to have the shots. They won't be angry just glad he's able to catch up on them. They will check him out & maybe have him milestone assessed no drama involved.
