How to repair a loose slate step

The step is approx. 12" x 40" I was thinking of removing the step and applying a heavy duty construction adhesive to the back of the step and then replacing it. Will this work or is there a better way.

Thanks
John

slate is like tile when you repair a part of it should have been set in mastic you'll need to clean both the slate and the sub-floor be care with the slate cuse applying to much pressure will crack it after both are clean then spread the mastic on the sub-floor and place the slate it. allow it set set for 24 hours if there are two or more pieces after24 hours you can grout it again allow the grout to set for 24 hours then you can seal it.

Call your local flooring supply store. You will need to use a specific adhesive for slate, and can purchase it there. You may stain or ruin the material if you use the improper adhesive.
