Help! My dog is really underweight and won't gain weight!

My dog once got really sick and almost died, his white blood cell count was in the 22 thousands. Since then he has dropped a ton of weight and he wont gain it back no matter what I do. Not only that but he is also covered in red itchy blotches and he seems so always be scratching. His paws keep getting weird blister like ulcers between and inside his toes and the area swells up and is super moist, I put hydrogen peroxide on it but it just wont get better. I am really worried about him and I really don't want to lose my dog. Please help me!

You need to take him to the vet. It sounds like he still has an infection and needs antibiotics. Once you get that cleared up and he gets his appetite back buy him puppy food. It has more calories and vitamins than adult dog food.

His appetite is healthy and he is eating 3 times a day. But I will try to talk my parents into taking him to the vet again its just the vet doesn't seem to solve anything when we go. But thank you so much for your help!

Try the puppy food and get a new vet. They should be telling you what's wrong and treating it. There are some really bad vets out there so you have to ask around to find a good one. I hope your pup gets better!!!!

Im 16 years old, my parents have taken him to the vet many times and don't want to take him anymore because the vet doesn't seem to solve anything and just charges us a lot of money. Otherwise I would have taken him a long time ago.. Thank you so much for trying to help me though I really appreciate it!

It will be your parents fault if he dies. I wouldn't want that on my shoulders. You need to see a different vet.

You are not going to like what I'm going to say, my girlfriends dog Baby had the exact same thing. Baby was eating tons, but literally was skin and bones, you could see every bone in her body. She had the red blotches all over, and she was constantly chewing on her paws. And Baby was diagnosed with cancer. From the time of her diagnosis to the time that she died, it was approximately 60 days. But her losing all the weight, and from her being sick initially, took about 4.5 months total. Tell your parents what I just said, and see if they'll take her back to the vet. I really hope I'm wrong sweetheart. I really do.

I had an Irish setter that had similar skin problems. Turns out she was allergic to beef. If I were you I would try a grain free dog food that doesn't have any beef in it. Taste of the Wild has a wetlands formula that is grain free and has no beef. Give it a try. Keep cleaning the open wounds so they don't get infected.
