Do you think priests are setting a good example for people?

Report as

No, those who didn't abuse seemed to help move the ones who did. Now its been revealed that Archbishop Timothy Dolan, who I thought was nice, knew about priests abusing, covered AND moved millions to another account so law suits can't touch it. This church IS the whore that Jesus told John about in Revelation.

Revelation 17:1-4
1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither ; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: 2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication , and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. 3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:

I think that depends on who you are.

Every priest or pastor is different. As people are human, each individual are different. If you read and study the Bible, you will be able to see if a priest of pastor is following God or not.

Some people-and I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings-can be a better example to priests.More and more I believe in saying that "a priest is a man" and they will yield to any human temptation. What hurts the most is that they should be the last ones to hurt children, but some of them still do.But "to err is human","to forgive is divine" and "don't judge, yet not be judged".

I think most are. the lions share of any press has gone to the bad apples. now it seems that many people want to paint all priests with the same brush. that really is unfair.
while all the press looks at the despicable acts of those relative few;the majority go on quietly in the parishes they are stationed to. they try to help and be there for their congregation as they're needed. so yeah, I think most do set good examples.

52,000 priests, and the actions of 3-400 of them is your focus? Seems proportional...
If you look at the good done by the church, including their hospitals, schools and soup kitchens, it helps balance the offenses.
How did the Catholic Church get to this? By allowing the recruitment of gays since the 60's. That has been stopped, and is the one most effective action the bureaucracy has proposed to stop the molestation of children. Today, here is a Zero Tolerance policy on abusers since 2002. If a credible accusation is made against a cleric, they are permanently removed from ministry regardless of how long ago the offense occurred.
Currently, Dioceses/eparchies require intensive background screening as well as psychological testing for those wishing to enter the seminary.

Shiny, are you saying that the gays were the molesters?

I am saying the Catholic Church says they are. They changed the rules on recruiting, and that must have had something to do with it.

Priests are put in a position of high authority within the catholic church, but are human beings just like us.

I think they could be better examples by speaking out, not only against the injustices of this world, but also against the injustices that have taken place within the church. Having said that, there is a high accountability that is placed on them by God, so I would not wish to be in their position in the least.
