How do i tell my friends on my softball team about the Lord?

i want to explain to them about what Christ did for us, and that he can give us eternal life if we receive his gift of salvation. its just hard to start that kind of conversation especially with a tennager

Report as

Don't. It's softball, play and practice. You're going to push some of them away from u. Keep the Lord and softball separate rightnow.

I forgot who, but someone I knew said, "if you want to make friends, dont talk politics or religion."
Report as
i would rather have Gods approval than theirs. and it is my last year of softball and if i dont tell them now they may never hear.
Report as
You are mistaken if you think they haven't heard about Christianity. 3 our of every 4 Americans is already Christian.
Report as
Even the ones that aren't christian likely know the fundamental beliefs of christianity.
Report as
its not just christianity. its a relationship with god. i want them to have what i have bc i get blessed in so many ways. and if you havnt noticed most of them go around complaining about things and i dont see happiness in them. even famous people, they have all the money they could ever need and they are miserable.
Report as
Most Americans are Christian, yet the majority whine and complain frequently. You are naive if you think religion makes people automatically happy.

In fact, most American atheists were once Christian, and if asked most will tell you they are much happier as atheists.
Report as
i know it wont automatically make you happy. there will obviously be trials but god can and will bring you through them. i feel bad for you that you believe that but if you really dont want to listen to someone take their time to tell you about something so amazing that is free! then that is your own decision
Report as
Religion is never "free".

Your condescension towards those that believe differently than you is another reason to mind your own business. If you think that telling people you feel sorry for them will convince them your religion is correct you are mistaken.
Report as
salvation is a free gift god gave us. he paid the penalty for us though by dying on the cross for our sins. and the last thing you said was definitely not true. i was saying that bc god is not willing that any should perish but if you dont want to listen to what i have to say anymore bc you think im arrogant and childish then i wont talk to you anymore. but sometimes you can only set the seed. maybe someone will tell you about it more than me and you can understand it better
Report as
It's all just silly mythology.
Report as
Look, the myth that a god had to sacrifice himself to himself to get around his own rules just plain doesn't make sense. Especially since the myth further states he had to do this because a man made from dirt and a woman made from a rib ate magic fruit they were given by a talking animal.

"Free" is the forgiveness I give my son. He doesn't have to ask for it, he doesn't have to worship me, and I don't make him blood sacrifice the cat. See, parents who actually love their children simply forgive them...end of list. No sacrifices, no belief necessary. It's funny that you call forgiveness requiring blood and worship "free". And an omnipotent deity that ACTUALLY didn't want anyone to "perish" wouldn't- else it isn't omnipotent.

It is childish and arrogant that you think you "understand better" than educated adults, many of whom (like myself) WERE once Christian. It was education that helped us realize it wasn't true. Hopefully education and time will cure you of this seeming brattiness and refusal to respect others.
Report as
I think this question was for christians not athiests who shun the Love of God!
Report as
thank you lololoves! haha
Report as
You can't shun something that isn't there. And when I joined this forum it was clearly marked an open one. You don't get to dictate who the question is "for" or who gets to answer.

As the people this kid is trying to preach to, one would think you evangelists would be more concerned with our opinion of your efforts. Unless of course you are just preaching to feel self-righteous and self- congratulatory...

Alienating the people you're trying to talk to is a poor way to do business.
Report as
if you dont believe there is a god then how exactly do you think everything was created? there has to be a beginning to everything. "in the beginning God created the heaven and the earth"
Report as
It's called physics and biology. Just because you don't understand science doesn't mean the answer is magic gods.

You can stop quoting your myths- your bible holds no validity.
Report as
Jill, even tho no one can explain how even a molecule or cell etc. came to be. (mot to mention, physics and biology) there is no answers and even athiests who have doctorate degrees in biology, etc, know that there r many gaps and no one can explain away God. They just choose to not believe. But...when we all die, everyone will be believers. :)
Report as
That is nonsense. You don't "choose" not to believe in things- you either do or you do not. I could no more choose to believe in a god than I could choose to believe in unicorns.

There is no need to "explain away" a god since there is no evidence any exist. Again, gaps in human knowledge doesn't make the answer supernatural deities. It just means we don't know the answer yet.

i don't want to see my friends go to hell. i know you may not believe in God but there is such a thing called hell and if you dont accept him as your savior you will go there. i just want to help my friends out bc it would be horrible if anything ever happened to them and they werent saved.

men make their own choices in life. you can punch someone in the face and then ask god why he let you do that. man has a free will. men do whatever they want and they always will but as a christian i am thankful for everything he has done in my life. he let me get a job at 16 at a veternarian hospital, he provided thousands of dollars to my 2 siblings college bills, he has done so many other great things and he answers our prayers when we ask him. i want others to see that so they can have true joy in their life. only jesus can satisfy your soul. the world is nothing. if you choose the world over God then that is your choice but is is also a very bad choice

First you could ask them if they believe in God or not and if they don't, ask them why. That might be a good way to start the conversation. If they seem unresponsive or say they are atheist, don't force the topic. I did the same with some girls on my team too.

Look kid, they just want to play some softball. It is fun, and purely recreational. They probably play to relax, and escape all the problems the world drops on them throughout the rest of the day. If you can't figure out the most basic reason people play sports, then maybe you should do them a *real* favor, and quit the team. No one wants or needs to be saved on your softball team. At the very least, from you.

i am not saving anyone. only God can do that. i am just a messenger for christ telling others the good news that he has for us, which is that we can have eternal life though him. do you even understand what Christ did for YOU so that you can have eternal life?! Aahhh, so you understand that faith is an internalized concept that cannot be taught to others? You can make small comments in the activity, read your bible during a short break, live by example. Try to make sure they see nothing but integrity from you. If the Lord desires them, this will draw them. I prayed at work one day about a girl and said "Lord, you know whether she is drawn by you or not. If she is, don't let her be swayed but have her come to me." It was within the week that she came to me and asked "how does that Christian thing work for you?" haha next thing I know we were studying together, and she got saved. The Lord knows exactly what he's doing. Who has ears and who doesn't. Plus, there is nothing more rude or intruding than to have someone sweat you about religion when you have NO desire to hear it. Little seeds such as seeing the difference in you compared to the rest will draw the right ones, and pray that the Lord guides those who will listen to you. Good job, keep it up you are not alone :)

Why are Christians so fond of thinking that the only reason anyone could Not be Christian is that they haven't heard about it? Trust me, it is virtually impossible to live in a western society and NOT have heard about it. Ad nauseum. Anybody who wants to know more knows where to go. Nope, you just don't get it, do you? Here's a prophecy for you. Your messiah complex is about to morph into a martyr complex in record time. And your team is going to lose.
Report as
It's fine that people who do not want to hear it, don't want to hear it. But why is there such an aggrivation? I understand the irritation that people get out of having it forced when someone doesn't want it. Honestly, though, many people are hearing the "religion" and have no clue to what it actually is. Certain Christians push "go get baptized!" etc. and they are ruining what Christianity is. Jeus himself didn't even push himself on people who didn't really want to hear. Jesus couldn't stand the religious people. Because that's all it was. Our bible calls religion "rules made by man." It's the relationship and true lliving that are being missed. Many people don't even understand the "christianity" that they are speaking of. So don't let overly religious and "rule masters" ruin what true Christianity is about.
Report as
i am not saying that my religion is the perfect and right one. and once you get saved you don't have to get baptized. i didn't until 10 years after i received him as my savior bc i was very shy and didn't want to stand in front of everyone. we only baptize because its obeying his word. baptizing doesn't save anyone. it is just a testimony of your salvation
Report as
lol I know what it is. I was commenting to the person behind you. Christianity is the right way. The only way. People don't like to hear it but it's true. I am only saying that there are ALOT of people that are more focused on the "religion" than the love of Christ or a true relationship with him. I love the Lord with all of my heart. He is my everything! I study his word to study HIM and who he is; what he likes, what he hates etc. I want a real relationship. Not a religion. I am saying that alot of people try to force a "religion" more than true meaning. That's all. Maybe I have worded wrong and I am sorry for that.
Report as
i like people like you. and he is definitely the right way! :D i have no idea ho someone can beliveve that there is no God at all! its just wrong. :P
Report as
@mrs. I think you answered your own question. It is the attitude that there can only be one - one true prophet, one true scripture, one true way to God. It is only the monotheistic faiths that believe this, and only Christianity and Islam that consider it a religious duty to convert the whole world. The devout of any faith can be prone to bouts of excess fervour, but those that CANNOT accept other traditions, scriptures, teachings as having value & validity often resort to demonizing the "others" , often leading to tragic consequences. In the huge, interconnected and diverse global population, it's a dangerous attitude, that will likely lead to conflict, that will likely embroil on us all..Hence, the aggravation.
Report as
See? As you can see, you know nothing about Christianity. Just the idea of religion. You proved my point. My bible says "Do not cast your pearls before swine." In other words (be offended if you so choose) we do not think it's a religious duty to convert the whole world. Yes, we let people know, give them the truth, but like Paul, if they don't listen, we kick the dust off our feet and move on. I'm sorry the world of religion has puffed you up into believing you are smarter than the super-natural world. Of course... there just CAN'T be anything out there bigger than the puny human mind can wrap itself around. You obviously made your decision. So.... that's you. Me? I'm looking toward something bigger than you. So you don't believe. Good. Let your idols save you. :)
Report as
@ Jill, and I am here for you. :) It's the way it should be. Certain People can't believe because God has hardened their hearts. God talks about tears in the world. Yet they cannot be pulled up until the end. Or, it's not their time. Paul went around killing Christians in a horrible ways. Then God snatched him up :) (He's my favorite of all history) lol Keep studying. The Lord will open your eyes to things :) I will keep you in my prayers. :) And no, not the cliche. lol When I say I'll pray, I mean it. :)

Your teammates have joined to play softball, not talk about religion. The fastest way to lose a friend is to push your religious beliefs on them unasked. If someone asks you about your beliefs then feel free to talk about them, but don't try to convert others- keep in mind that if you do then they might just do the same!

Best way is by maybe telling someone you will pray for them. (if they are in need of prayer) Mention what God has been doing in your life when opportunities arrise. Ask God to give you natural opportunities to share the good news. ;) People who are interested may ask more. Today, one of my coworkers asked me where to find a church. I have actually never told her I was a christian but I have told her that she is in my prayers on more than 1 occasion. :)

If you want to annoy them and possibly alienate them as much as possible then badger them with christianity all you want. If all you have as "proof" are baseless claims like "I've been blessed" and threats of eternal punishment if the other kids don't convert then you will turn them off from christianity real quick. The only leverage you have is to pray on their ignorance of religion (particularly christianity), science, history. It seems like threats of hell have worked quite well on you and that's probably why you think that is sufficient enough to convince people that they're wrong. Don't pretend like their conversion isn't what you want. Kid, threats of hell only work on children. Demonstrated very well here.

We don't believe, and if we did, we wouldn't align ourselves with any god that promotes misogyny, rape, murder, slavery, or eternal damnation for misunderstood intentions. You're sounding less like a 'good christian', and more like an arrogant little brat by the second.

^ exactly. I used to have the attitude of "thanks but no thanks" but now it's just annoying and these people need to get a clue. These people seriously need to stop living in their tiny world wear they're the only righeous people and everyone who isn't christian is immoral and hell bound all while they disregard every other religion as if it never existed. The day I'm converted by a teenager is the day I go back to first grade.

Loving the discourse, fellas. You've echoed my thoughts exactly. There are far too many of these pushy little cretins, they are a scourge on us all. Well, them and their tired mythology.

The older I get the more teenagers who think they know everything when they clearly have very little knowledge irritate me.

I am so not looking forward to the teen years with my kid.

Don't bring church to softball. I'm sure people aren't bringing bats to church.

Narrow minded much?

God is welcomed anywhere. And if you wanna get technical, the Pastor won't make you leave the bat In the car.

It is not narrow minded to suggest you respect others' right not to be badgered about religion at a leisure activity.

if you want to talk about respect then im pretty sure you have no respect for God and his holy word. i am not trying to dis you or say that i know everything bc im just a teen, bc i know i dont. if i did know everything then i would be God which i am not. i am just obeying his word and trying to be a good kid. i dont expect you to convert to what i believe because that is not what you were taught. but just bc im only a teen doesnt make me wrong. that is actually immature of you to say that.
Report as
Why would I "respect" an entity I don't think exists? Do you respect Santa?

And you beliefs ARE what I was taught. Then I actually got an education and learned to think for myself and not just believe what I was told.

If you were a "good kid", you'd respect your teammates enough to leave them alone, let them believe whatever they wish, and just play the game you are actually there to play. Kids don't go to softball to hear you preach. And you are forgetting that some of their parents might find it offensive that you are preaching to their kids.

I never said you were wrong because you are a teenager- I said you are acting like a typical teenager who thinks she knows better than adults and that of course the religion you were raised must be correct out of the hundreds on Earth. Hopefully one day you will gain more experience and learn some things beyond what you were taught in church.

i know i wont change my belief bc he has shown me in many ways that he is real, and i am still young so i know more will come if i follow him. im not saying my religion is the perfect one. religion is nothing. a relationship with God is important in whatever you believe. btw everyone knows santa is fake so that is completely different and cannot be compared to God. do you believe there is a devil?
Report as
Two thirds of the world knows your god is fake. "Fake" is perspective.

And it can easily be compared to your god or any other- it's a mythical being for which you have no evidence.

If I don't believe in your god why would I believe in your devil? "Satan" is Judeo-Christian mythology.

Simply ask if you can speak to them. If they say yes, wonderful. If not be patient. Good luck and God bless.

There's a time and a place for everything. It's doubtful your teammates come to the softball field to be preached to. You should attempt to respect those who don't share your beliefs. Invite whomever is willing to a small chat after practice so you can regale them with your faith. Leave the rest to their choices.

After reading your replies, Jill, it is clear you are hopelessly indoctrinated to the point you have no respect for others. I would advise you to keep your beliefs to yourself in nonreligious settings, but it is quite clear you are too wide-eyed possessed to do that. Good luck with the shunning you will no doubt be facing. It's pushy Christians like you who make others revile religion.

Please spare them such torture. It cannot be necessary to deceive others with something, simply because you have been deceived by it. You have no right to impose your superstition on others as true, which even you yourself know absolutely nothing about. There is no reason for such wishful thinking that an infinite god found it befitting to reveal himself before your majesty, while remaining hidden from the rest of your mates. It's profane to suppose that you have somehow stumbled upon the light of a matter as absolute as god, while all the others are groping in darkness. When the sun rises, you need not call others to see it.

Nevertheless, you should at least possess as much respect for the god you worship to believe that if Jesus indeed is a god (or gods), he certainly is perfectly capable without your silly help to take care of his own affairs. So why not leave those innocent souls in peace, will you!!

Atheists shouldn't be allowed to answer these christian questions. You always try to turn us away from God, which is bad because then we don't go to heaven. And now you're trying to tell the asker to not teach the word of God and save them from hell.

Be yourself kid and speak freely especially if they're you're friends. Some might accept the word of God and others might not grab they're interest. It's a nice thing you're doing. Do what makes you happy

Why would you? Softball has nothing to do with religion. Play ball and have fun, leave religion out of it.

Let your walk with Christ be an example to others. You can share your story, but never pressure.

Be aware of the other religions. Im buddhist and striking up a convo with me about the Lord wouldnt put me off the least bit, but there are less friendly people out there. Softball is softball, religion is religion. One is in a church, one is on a feild. Keeping it that way would be great. But try it, who knows what could happen. Maybe youll learn something.

no. because religion is something that should be taught to those who want to hear it. also, if they are not of one religion then why would they listen to you when they feel just as faithful and/or loyal to a different religion

Lots of people don't want you to do this. They say "keep softball and church" separate. They are also the same people who don't truly understand the separation of church and state. Anyhow, God commands you to tell others about Christ, no matter the consequences and persecution.
Now, also you have to be "wise as a serpent, and harmless as a dove". If they are fine hearing it then keep talking to them. Those that blow up, leave them alone. You'll will just turn them off by making them angry.
A good way to tell them about God is to share praises throughout the practice. For instance, you go to practice, and while warming up, you tell them about a prayer God answered recently. Tell them how happy you are that God gave the team such a beautiful day to practice in. Little by little, inch by inch.
If you are worried to try it, don't be. Everybody gets nervous. It takes guts. But it works and I have personally seen results.

First of all it doesn't matter if u lose ur friends becuz The Lord Almighty is the only thing u need. How u should aproch it to them is start talking to them about the things in their life thats getting hard right now then incorporate how Jesus Christ can help them fix their problems and comfort them. Then start getting deeper into becoming a Christian and stuff later. It would be great for ur whole softball team to except god ill be prayin for u.

I don't have any advice that i can think of. Maybe pray for them? I'll pray that you manage to turn at least a few of them to God. God bless you!

First of all, don't listen to those saying to leave it alone. If you want to spread the word of god, go for it. Make sure you don't come on like a freight train though. Make sure you bring it up in a casual kinda way. One way you could find out how the teams feelings about it, before a game you could ask the team how they would feel about saying a team prayer before games. If you get a completely negative response, then don't push the issue. But if you get a mixed or positive response then go with it. You could say," what do you guys think about this, those who want to say a team prayer can join me in prayer before games, and those who don't want to dont have to participate. But you are always welcome to join me in prayer."
-Hope this helps
