Squats more so are strengthening your already existing leg muscles. Realistically the only way to "lose fat" is eating healthy and cardio workouts. I'm not saying they won't help tone up your legs, because they will. If you are just starting off, you need to work on perfecting your form. THIS is very important. Make sure when you start off, you only do a few. 20 at the most. You WILL be extremely sore the next day.
