Florida, just like any other place, has its good and bad points. The unspoiled parts of Florida are some of my favorite parts to kayak through. The scenery is absolutely incredible. The wildlife you come across while out on the water is amazing too. Snakes, alligators, monkeys and all sorts of birds just FORCE you to relax and soak it all in. The heat in Florida has been overrated. It gets hot here... but it gets hotter in other parts of the country as well. Last year when the entire country was sweltering.... we stayed in the low 90s. A large percentage of people in Florida seem to ruin the state. The come from everywhere else and do not care about the land or the animals. Their is a very large drug trade in Florida... but I suppose that is everywhere nowadays. The beaches are absolutely incredible. Most are very beautiful... and the more secluded they are, the more beautiful they are. The more people you find on the beach takes away from that beauty though. They are NOT the best surfing beaches.... but oh, well. Their is a lot to do and see here. ESPECIALLY if you want to get away from people and see the REAL Florida.
I live right next to the gulf in florida so I can talk, its hot some days and nice on others, depending on the beach you go to determines if its good or not, the beaches around my area have lots of algae though so look for that, its really beautiful though
I grew up in FL and go back once or twice a year. (heading back next month) I grew up in a small town between Orlando and Daytona and can't wait to move back.
It is not for everyone. It is hot an sticky during the summer, and there are bugs big enough you could leash and name Fido. If there is a body of water assume two things, there is either snakes and/or gators in it. And the beach depends on where you go. I prefer the ones where there are no condos. However I tend to go to Ponce Inlet, it is the one mentioned on Shark Week because it has had the most shark bites in the world. (none fatal) I know when they feed and stay clear at that time.
