How can i convince my parents to let me get a new phone?

I've had this phone for 2 years, and i really want a smartphone. I'm 14 and responsible enough..

If you really deserve it, you will not even have to ask.

Ask your parents if they can get you one for your birthday and if they say no then respect their decision and don't feel bad. I don't even have a phone right now and i'm gonna be eighteen in two days.

Lol, you have to be more careful. I learned it first hand when I dropped my 5 and it cracked. I was so sad I wanted to cry! It costs so much to get one crack fixed it's sad. :(

if you go to the restaurant or go to the movies or some special activity that costs money, try to cut that out of your schedule so your parents save more money to get a new phone

Try to ask them at Christmas or birthdays and if this doesn't work , prove you are responsible enough by looking after a pet or siblings , if this doesn't work try to bribe them with behaviour or other means that they would be interested in . If this doesn't work you try to use the sympathy vote and compare yourself to people in your school , try to get friends to back you up

I made a PowerPoint presentation on all the benefits of letting me have a phone such as safety, schoolwork, etc.

You're eligible for an upgrade after two years, I don't see why they wouldn't get you a new phone. They may have taken your upgrade. How long have both your parents have their last phone?

You're "eligible" for an upgrade after 2 years? Says who? If I had a kid and he'd told me that he's "eligible" for...whatever, that would be the worse way for him to get something from me!!! Some kids NEVER get a phone from their parents and must wait until they earned enough money to buy one! So maybe you're spoiled by your parents (no offense! English isn't my native language and I just don't know any other word to express that "you get a lot of nice things from your parents and you're used to it now") and you feel you're entitled to get some things, like a new smartphone every two years... Again, I do't think this would be a good idea. Remain humble, simple....

Who are you to say that I am spoiled? I happen to be observant. When we got to the AT&T store instead of looking at phones I listen to what the person is saying to my parents, so I can know what's going on. That's how I found out how long till you get an upgrade, not to mention you can call a four digit number, and they will text you back when you're next upgrade is available. When mine was available, I asked my mom can I get a new phone because its available for my phone and will not cost as much. If you wait till way later and someone else uses your upgrade you'll be out of a new phone. When opportunity knocks, you open the door.

I didn't say that you are spoiled, or at least, I didn't mean it. I said "you", meant in general, not your person. Just like you would say "man, you can't listen to this!" You know? I'm not saying that the person I'm talking to can't listen to this but in general, a person can't listen to this...
Also, I want to apologize. I misunderstood you. When you say that you're eligible for an upgrade, I didn't understand that you were talking about your carrier! I thought that you were saying that your PARENTS have to offer you a new phone every two years. You were talking about AT&T, now I get it. We don't have AT&T here but it's the same: if you buy an iPhone with a 2 year contract, after these 2 years, you're eligible for a new iPhone or some other cellphone. OK, it's clear now! But do you understand my reaction, now? Thinking that someone was saying "hey, after 2 years (or every two years), your parents must give you a new phone!" Tht's why I said that you (again, not you personaly) must be spoiled to say something like that. Hey, I'm sorry, man! It was a misunderstanding! We're cool? ;-)

Yes, I do understand what you mean. I'm not demanding my parents lol they'd never go for that. But I've had people call me spoiled in here before just because I have a 5 and I'm 14... Which I know I'm lucky to have, but they automatically think because of my age I'm spoiled rotten. But yes we are cool :)

I suggest that you get a JOB and earn the money and grow up and show your parents that you are "becoming" an adult,,,,

Nice try, but the last thing they want me to do is "become an adult", they say don't grow up too fast and stay a kid. I want to act my age just with an "up-to-date" phone.

I guess you don't have a job, but is there a way you can pay it back, even if it's just a little part? Doing little things like to mow the lawn or something similar. What about your phone, the one that you have now? Is it broken, all scratched...? If not, show them how good you can take care of your things!
Also, they must know for sure that you won't abuse the phone, like being non-stop in the Internet or texting all the time. Maybe a prepaid card would be a good start. What do you think?

You can break it. You can tell them to get you a new one or you won't stop bugging them. You could save up money and just buy a new phone.

Start by finding out the actual monthly cost of the phone. Then start asking about finances for running your home daily. Is it a cost that they can afford or do other things come before it in level of importance?

No it's not because they can"t afford it and I think a new phone is pretty important.

Earn the money to pay for the phone and the service yourself. I'm sure they wouldn't have any objection in that situation.

Step 1: Break your phone
Step 2: Tell your parents it's broken.
Step 3: Enjoy your new phone.

If it ain't broke then you don't need a new one..simple as that. And if you break it on purpose trust me they will know and not get you a new one at all. Why do you need a smartphone anyway? Seriously. If you can call or text, be grateful for what you got.
