Bipolar refers to a mood disorder where one can swing from depression to mania(extreme excitement ). It can be seen as both or mostly one end. The changes can be quick or over time. It can be a severe mental illness and potentially can lead to fatal behavior.
As someone who is bipolar, I can personally attest it is nothing to laugh about. It causes wide mood swings from very depressed to very happy over short or long periods of time. One day you may feel like you can do anything and are invincible. Then all of a sudden your mood swings into depression and next thing you know you are crying your eyes out over a glass you broke, or some other little thing. These moods tend to swing back and forth. Luckily with psychiatrists, therapists, and the right meds for you, this condition is controllable.
When someone is diagnosed with Bipolar disorder they are obviously feeling like they can't control there emotions. You see, there are lots of ways that can make people feel out of control. All of our brains, are different and we perceive things different and feel things different. It can be a chemical imbalance or it can be a choice it's up to her to decide that. she can let it rule her life, crutch on it, or she can be above and beyond that. Whatever she feels more validated, she should choose that way. Life is hard for everyone, chemical imbalanced brain/disorder or not. she needs to know it's okay, that what she is picking up is things outside of herself and it's how she decides to deal with it is what will change the way she feels in her head.
