Hi, Rudy. Infectious mononucleosis (mono) is often called the kissing disease. The virus that causes mono is transmitted through saliva, so you can get it through kissing, but you can also be exposed through a cough or sneeze, or by sharing a glass or food utensils with someone who has mono. However, mononucleosis isn't as contagious as some infections, such as the common cold.
Mono is an immune system dysfunctions that is nasty and long lasting. It took me about 6 months to get over it and feel like myself again when I was 19. You can't take anything for it really, tho some get penicillin for certain types. It is a good idea to check with a doc. It is very contagious. Nicknamed the 'kissing disease'. If you or someone you know has it, eat well. Supplement with a good vitamins and minerals. Eat fruits and vegetables. Sip good fruit drinks like Bolthouse, coconut water, etc,..lots of water in general. Green teas. Chicken soup. Skip fast food, greasy food, processed foods, refined sugars. You will pay if you indulge in them! What one can tolerate one day may be different the next. Acidophilus, Keir, yogurt are great. Don't over do it physically with exercise. Watch for early warnings of fatigue and cater to them. SLEEP AND REST A LOT!!!!!! If it is bad you will have to anyway. Keep your mind amused with reading, watching flicks, playing games, etc,...so you don't focus on how bad you feel. And realize it WILL go away. God bless, will be praying for whomever may have it.
