For a birthday, a special meal and a card are all I need, but I must have the whole family there. Kids, dogs-- the works. I usually get a gag gift from the kids, and it's always fun. From the wife, all I ask is love. And sometimes, she surprises me with something odd. Like the time she left valentines on every step of the staircase leading to the table, and a waffle and strawberries for breakfast. Or when she left chocolates and a love letter in my luggage when I was deployed over my birthday.
Guys like it when they get stuff that helps them pursue a hobby. It means you like them just as they are - including what makes them happy.
I am not talking about tickets to a ballgame or a sweatshirt of his favorite team. I am talking about his particular brand of golf balls, or that specialized tool for when he tinkers with his car, or a new, sure-fire lure for his tackle box.
