Is it better to put ice or heat on your aching back?
This is chronic pain, not an injury or sprain or strain.
It is best to alternate heat and cold. no more than 15 minutes of each at a time with a 30 minute break in between. The ice helps with swelling and inflammation and the heat helps with pain. But the BEST thing to do is see your doctor first to rule out serious issues.
Ice is used to reduce inflammation and swelling.Heat is used to relax muscles and tension.Try each, and see what works for you
Dross1958 is correct. I worked for a chiropractor for years. Ice is used up to 48 hours of a new injury to reduce swelling. After that heat is used to relax the muscles.
Heat to sooth the pain
First two answers are on point...especially the first because you should not use either for long periods. Heat of course feels the best but if there is swelling ice is whats going to reduce it....feel better!
