is there an easy way to teach a puppy to chew on its toys and not prohibited items?

I have two dogs the older two year old was abused badly and a younger about 4 an a half ta 5 months every time we leave them alone, we come back to everything pulled off shelves and what can be chewed and ripped is its just gotten worse and worse. idk what I should do please help and quick or I might have to take him to the pound and all of them around here are kill shelters :(

Yes, crating or a cage for the dogs is a good idea. If you put them together just make sure they can get along in the crate/cage, they might do better separately. They feel safer in there and they love it too. Even when I was home my dog used to go in there to play and nap, he would go in & out. Don't forget to leave water and toys in there too. Be patient, it'll work out. I sure hope you decide to keep them.

Crate them before you leave.
A lot of abused dogs suffer from separation anxiety.

Make a crate for them. Leave water and toys. Make sure they can't get out. The toys should be chewable.
