How do I know if my cat is being affectionate or mean?

Sometimes when I pet my cat she will be purring and then out of nowhere she will bite me. These aren't soft bites, they actually hurt. I've heard that when a cat bites you when it's happy it's just showing affection, but when your cat bites hard in places like the face is this true? Or are they maybe trying to tell you to leave them alone?

Cats are just being cats. A study was published of psychotic human brains waves, they charted and graphed the brain waves; the correlation to those of a cats brain waves was over 90%. Also know that there are only TWO animals that kill just to kill; humans and cats.

You will know if your cat affectionate or mean by its actions. A cat that is mean will not in the first place like to be near people. It will always isolate itself and when you try to carry it, this is when she will hurt you. If she is affectionate, she will not be hard on you and won't make rough bites.
