i do 'no bull training' and you workout and do a whole bunch of workouts and lifting and all these type of things to loose weight and get in shape, he told us right after the work out you should eat fruit than don't eat anything like food wise for an hour .
According to what i have read in health and fitness magazines, you must not eat anything for at least 30 minutes before a Physical workout ,and must also wait 30 minutes after your work out before eating due to digestion and body stress.other than that you can take your protein any time except too close to sleep time.
Don't take protein before a workout, get your hands on some pre workout nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is a natural substance produced by the body. Once the body runs out it, muscular growth is reduced greatly. Taking this maximizes the duration of effective exercise. Nitric oxide is not essential, but it can be compared to a risk free and natural steroid. It is worth researching. Take protein after a workout, but it can be taken up to ten hours after a workout and still be effective.

In terms of protein, I like the system of taking branched chain amino acids about 20 - 30 minutes before the workout to aid in preventing or minimizing going into a catabolic state. Then ingest a simple carbohydrate and another dose of branched chain amino acids within 30 to 45 minutes after. Post activity the simple carbohydrates aka simple sugars are the most important of the two however. The bodies preferred type and most efficient form of carbohydrate to replenish glucose stores that have been depleted, more so from high intensity training /anaerobic exercise are simple carbs - again within 30 - 45 minutes while the body's absorption rate of glucose/glycogen replenishment is at it's highest. If nothing is ingested within that time frame nor well beyond it - many people wait too long after the workout to ingest something - body's level of the stress hormone cortisol increases and is released into the bloodstream. Increased cortisol levels promote fat storage, as well as simply cause stress, including stressing out the nervous system. Overall, if one has a reasonably healthy diet already, what's ingested directly after the workout is the more critical.
it would be before the workout because you have to get in a habit of drinking protein in morning when wake up and after the workout to build ive been told by many heavy weight lifter professionals and also drink as much water as possible it helps more than protein drink before and after workout if you eat or drink unhealthy before or after workout it will slow you down
