Why does Marlow remain loyal to Kurtz in the book Heart of Darkness?

This because of his captive audience that Kurtz takes advantage off during all the time he is left alone with Kurtz. This helps Kurtz to hold a variety of subjects though on some point of the book Marlow becomes ill.
