Would world be a better place if all the people followed one particular religion?

i have seen people fight over religion. so wouldn't it be nice if all the people followed one religion?

Report as

But which religion should it be? And even if everyone was one religion, there would still be fights about which denomination of some religions, or how people should follow their religion, and all sorts. Even within a religion there are disputes. Maybe it would be simpler if there were no religions at all, then there might be less fighting.
Someone (it may have been Charlie Chaplain, or John Stewart, or an American president, I don't know who) once said, "Religion. It's given people hope in a world torn apart by religion." I think he has a point. What do you think?

I like that quote. I'll have to look it up. Thanks. Good answer!

I looked it up again, but I couldn't find who said it first. It appears to have been attributed to several different people.
You're welcome, and thank you.

Nope...it will take the fun out of debating and be a quite boring world. Unless its the way of the Jedi...that would be ideal.

It would be a very peaceful world if everyone thought the same about everything, yes. However, people of the same religion don't even believe in the same religion. Some don't even acknowledge that what they believe in IS a religion. It's not enough that we have beliefs that give our lives a sense of meaning and purpose. We have to believe our beliefs are better than other people's beliefs. Religion, like all human activities, is yet another playground for the ego.

That can't be ... since the aim of the creation of this world is to test people as to which of them is best in deeds .. and to weed out the worthy from the unworthy
---
And in fact , at first people were united in religion , As God says :

( 19 ) And mankind was not but one community [united in religion], but [then] they differed. And if not for a word that preceded from your Lord, it would have been judged between them [immediately] concerning that over which they differ. Quran (10:19)
---
( 48 ) And We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth, confirming that which preceded it of the Scripture and as a criterion over it. So judge between them by what Allah has revealed and do not follow their inclinations away from what has come to you of the truth. To each of you We prescribed a law and a method. Had Allah willed, He would have made you one nation [united in religion], but [He intended] to test you in what He has given you; so race to [all that is] good. To Allah is your return all together, and He will [then] inform you concerning that over which you used to differ. Quran (5:48)

Yeah because a lot of fighting would end. But on the other religion makes us all different. Actually no I would dislike a world with one religion because then there would be no freedom of religion like we have in the USA. If someone decide to think different of that religion they would be prosecuted by others because it would be that one person vs a whole society with hatred for that person for being different.

Strange answer time! Lots of police officers in Scotland list their religion as: Jedi. As in Jedi Knights in Star Wars.
But, even if there was just one religion, etc, countries would just war over something else, because the "religion" that is much bigger than all of them is: money and power.

We are not so much divided by religion as by politics. Religion tends to unite us, because even though there are always differences, there are similarities and the morality is quite similar.
In countries where there is sectarian violence, it's typically political: who is in power, who is receiving the benefits of society. Churches don't have armories, don't train soldiers, and don't indoctrinate troops. Their training is to feed the hungry and house the homeless, to care for widows and orphans. That's pretty innocuous.

Religions tend to divide us simply because each religion preaches it is the only correct way and everybody else is wrong.
Just look at the religious answers on this site...
If you don't believe in Christ you're going to he11...
If you're not Muslim, you're doomed, if you're jewish, you're doomed.
Churches don't have armies but armies have been raised in the name of god.

One suspects the fault may not be in the curricula, not in the teacher, but perhaps in the student. But each to her own. Anyone who loves horses isn't all bad.

Look at the posts by Christians here. "Enjoy your stay in hell"
"Muslims are terrorists"
If you don't believe as I do, you're condemned...
You see it in every religion. I love the folks who wear the wwjd bracelets and then proceed to act in a very UN Christian manner.
I see lack of tolerance, I see lack of caring, I see lack of humanity in most of the religious. I am pretty sure that god wishes he put in a 5 day work week.
I grew up in the Catholic Church which is the biggest duck in the hypocrite puddle.

You don't typically hear that stuff from me, boo. I defend belief, but don't require it. Similarly, the majority of atheists I know are not nearly as virulent as the ones who write here. It's the nature of anonymous writing, that we let our extremism show. In real life, I am avuncular.
Report as
You're about the only one that doesn't post stuff like that but it's not just here. I see it everywhere. It is so bad that i will not work for or extend credit to churches, pastors or someone who proclaims himself christian, it usually means we don't get paid or get cheated.
Basically I've learned the more and/or louder someone proclaims themself a Christian, the less Christian like they act.

I grieve for your cynicism but if its earned, I lament the cause. I have no way of knowing if its your prejudice, or actual immorality practiced by ministers; I assume you have a business.
I owned two Subways when I first retired (an investment until i got my clinic up) and did a lot of business with churches here in town - never being cheated; in fact, I did lots of business with atheists and they never cheated me either.
I think the ones who stole from me, worked for me and probably had drug problems. I ignored the first one, then had to fire one (caught on tape) and reschedule the other to work only when I had a manager there. After being stolen from 3 times in one week, police called detectives. Last one had a long rap sheet, it turns out. You know, I never inquired about her church affiliation?? Hm.

Around here, you don't have to ask... Siding job on a church, price quoted, agreed to.
Siding job finished, church starts hemming and hawing about how we should charge them less cause they're a CHURCH!
It took the threat of a lawsuit to get paid.
Car for sale in yard, guy approaches, likes, asks price, haggles, talks, test drives, talks some more, basically wasting over an hour of my time. Finally gets huffy and says we should half the price for him since he's a minister doing "gods work"
Deacon of a church gets a man who is down on his luck and working hard to overcome fired from his menial job by lying and saying the guy had been drinking when the guy had been at my house the whole time he was supposedly tying one on.
3 year old daughter is informed by a "Christian" that children won't be allowed to play with her unless she goes to the right church.
Minister "rescues" a horse, talks me into extending credit so he can save gods creature, never pays. And those are just a few.
Like I said, the louder they talk the talk, the less they walk the walk.

You have had your share. I suppose I should defend em. But there isn't any.

There are so many religions in the world today that misrepresent God and the Bible. Many of the people and leaders of religious groups support things that are not in harmony with Christian teachings from the Bible, not the least of which are involvement in politics and war (John 17:16, Mark 12:31, John 13:35,34). The Bible does point to a time when both man's governments and false religion will be replaced with a theocratic government ruled by Jesus. -Daniel 2:44, Isaiah 9:6, 7; 11:4, 9, Rev. 17:5, 6, 15, 2 Thessalonians 2:8. Under this government, all people will be taught the same, by God, to be at peace. Isaiah 2:3, 4; 54:13. If you've ever prayed what's commonly referred to as the "Lord's Prayer" (Matthew 6:9,10) then you have already prayed for this to take place. To learn more visit jw.org

No- humans will always find differences to fight about. And having the same religion is no guarantee you won't fight over it- Sunni and Shiite Muslims fight constantly, and there are around 40,000 different Christian denominations.

No Religion can reform mankind, because religion is slavery. Such religious monopoly would immediately force this world under a "theological dictatorship" or into a "tyrannical theocracy". And of all the tyrants, the worst is a god's slave in power, and of all the tyrannies, religious tyranny is the worst.

Religious monopoly has been tried, for instance, there was a period in history when Christianity monopoly literally ruled the world. History has termed that period as the Dark Age. The most heinous and cruelest crimes of which history has a record, have been the crown-jewel of that period.

There is but one hope. Ignorance, poverty and vice must stop populating the world. To hasten the coming of the Heavenly Dawn on earth, we must educate the children, we must commence at the cradle, at the lap of the loving mother. This cannot be done by religion, or by priest, or by hangman. The development of the brain, the civilization of the heart, will drive want and crime from the world. And in this way, and in this way alone, can be laid the foundation for the future prosperity and civilization of the race.?
