Only half of the people eligible to vote, actually vote. We may not directly vote for issues but, we do get to pick the representatives in office that vote on those issues. The part that breaks my metaphorical heart, is that we do not pick the president, the electoral college does. They only take our votes into consideration, they do not have to abide by our votes. There have been cases in history when the candidate the majority of people voted for did not win.
The last couple of elections broke turnout records. Hundreds of thousands of Servicemen and women died fir your right to vote, don't let them have died for nothing. Your vote DOES count, it's counted by the Electoral College.
As everyone has answered, we have lost faith in the power of our vote. It doesn't matter who you vote for, we could put a monkey in office, the results for the 99% would be the same. Until we divorce private interests from politics, it will never change.
