If I have something to say when should I use twitter and when to use facebook?

Most people have both a twitter and facebook account but tend to choose only one of the two to comment with .. is there an unwritten rule for me to know when to use which?

I use both Twitter and Facebook - and there is no unwritten rule about which one to post to. However, I want to ask a few questions - Is either one used for business and the other for personal? If so - then you want to keep business and personal separate. If they both are personal - do you have the same followers on Twitter and Facebook? If so, they will not want to see the same status updates twice. Are the followers and friends different from the two pages? Then why not link up the two pages - when you post on one, it will automatically post on the other. Keep in mind - that Twitter limits your characters to 180 (may be less), and Facebook lets you use a little over 400 characters.

Also, you may want to take into consideration if one has business contacts - you may want to keep it clean and appropriate.

Keep in mind, that twitter is not necessarily for conversations. Look at what everyone else is doing with theirs, and you too should be able to follow suit.

Good Luck.

You can both use twitter and Facebook when you have something to say or shout; however, twitter is intended for short comments and lets you type for only limited number of characters. If your message is personal and lengthy, choose Facebook, it is safer and convenient based on my experience.

You could authorize Facebook to post tweets from Twitter if you're looking to consolidate how you broadcast your updates.

I'd say both because even if you have Both, your friends might only have FB or Twitter.

I'd say both because even if you have Both. Not as many of your friends might have Twitter.

posting a status is the least powerful feature of twiter, you should read more about it, but if its only status updates you are looking for, stick with facebook
