Why is a dime smaller than a nickel?

why is it smaller than the nickel, yet it is worth more?

Report as

Because a "nickel" is made out of "nickel," and a dime is made out of "silver." It used to be that way. I don't think this rule holds so true any more, but that was the original reason and we all got used to it and never changed their sizes! :)
