There are examples of both living very long lives. Just because you do or don't eat meat does not mean you will or will not die sooner. BUT if you eat excessive amounts of meat you're more likely to get coronary artery disease. However, if you don't have a proper vegetarian diet you're more likely to be anemic or malnourished. So it swings both ways.
It's best to eat a balanced diet of protein and vegetables. You should stick with lean meats like chicken and fish as much as possible to cut down cholesterol. As far as veggies go try to stick with green leafy as much as possible. Veggies like potatoes are actually a starch and have a lot of sugar.
