If you take the easier way (which is consolidating your bills), you don't learn to curb your spending habits so that you don't do this again. If you are sick and tired of being broke and in debt, you can get out of debt yourself with hard work and sweat. List your bills, starting from the smallest to the largest. When he was 15, I decided I wanted to be debt free by his senior year. Got a second job in retail, so I was on my feet a lot. He sucked it up for 18 months; never asked for a single unnecessary thing because he knew the pain was short-lived. 18 months later, we paid off the last debt - total debt amount was over $12k.
