Whats the deal with rated R movies?

I want to go watch The Conjuring with a friend but im only 16. Do I need an adult to accompany us the whole time? Or maybe just have them buy the tickets? Are me and my friend allowed to stay without an 18 year old? I live in Cali btw

R = restricted. And the rule is there for a purpose, so that your mind isn't ruined by inappropriate content. Even though sometimes in m/pgr/pg movies are a bit mature for people's eyes these days.
M = mature audiences.
I think in those cases, you should get an adult with you/ older friend because it is required (someone over 18)

If you can withstand the horror movies without nightmares, then by all means... go ahead and watch that movie :)

You need an adult to buy the tickets they don't have to stay with you

Sometimes it can depend on the theatre and sometimes you can just say your 18 and they'll still let you in

R ratings require the presence of an adult over 18 to go with you.

you only have to be 17 to see an R rated movie and the cashier might not even ask you how old you are. if you have someone else buy the tickets they do not have to watch the movie with you.

To protect the supposed "virgin" ears/eyes of the young people of our generation and to protect the further generations
