If heaven isn't real and god isn't real what happens after death?

I just been wondering so many people say it is not real but if it is not then what happens after death?

Report as

You cease to exist.
Your body is taken to a morgue, where the mortician will do what needs to be done.
You are either buried, or you are cremated.
Your family and friends mourn.
But you're done.

Amen, I agree! However, being nice is not what gets her into heaven. Betty has Christ in her life - and people who have asked Jesus into their hearts are the ONLY ones that will be able to come before God (other than for judgement)...
Report as
I'm no more taking a chance than any believer in any religion- you all take the chance your specific beliefs are right and the thousands of other gods are wrong. In fact, choosing a god out of those thousands is a bigger chance than none at all, since most religions have serious punishments for false worship.

This also assumes one can just choose to believe in something one finds nonsensical just to cover their backside.

When will believers learn Pascal's Wager is a fallacy?
Report as
Ah, Geek, you forget that when we ask Jesus into our lives, He begins to PROVE that He's real to us, and that we're on the right track. But not until we ask.
Report as
Bunk. I was a Christian for years- I know all too well how easy it is to fool yourself into believing "god" or "Jesus" has shown you things.

One of the hallmarks of a baseless belief system is that they try to convince you that you have to believe in it first before you get evidence. They know that from there your confirmation bias will do all the work for them.

Nothing. All evidence indicates that our consciousness is just a function of our brain structure. When the brain does our consciousness ceases.

What does the evidence say animates our bodies? What animates our living cells? Jc what u think.
Report as
There is no evidence of a "soul" if that is what you are trying to get at. Our bodies are "animated" by metabolic processes in our cells.
Report as
Indeed, we are electrochemical machines.
Report as
It is our minds that tell our bodies what to do.
The brain can be measured, and has electrical impulses, true, but the MIND tells the brain what to do and when.

And, how do you explain thoughts, etc.??? Where do they come from? No, the electrical activity is the brain RESPONDING to those thoughts - NOT CREATING the thoughts. Do you thinik that electrical impulses makes your brain crave something or someone higher than yourself? No, that's your spirit craving God. Or is it the impulses that makes you want to please someone? Do you think a brain, kept alive in a jar, can be thinking something? No, that part comes from the mind, same as the emotions. Starts in the mind, THEN comes to the brain, THEN goes on to the body. But, always knowing when you sit still that there has GOT to be something more in life...

THAT, my friend, is your spirit inside you, separate from your mind, which cannot be measured. Your spirit is what can connect with God. And your spirit lives forever.
Report as
Absolute nonsense. Our "mind" is just a series of electrical impulses though our brain. Everything we are is the structure and function of the brain. There is no "spirit".

Your claims here are all completely unsupported by even a shred of evidence.

And FYI- I don't "crave something higher than myself". You folks seem to feel the need to tell yourselves that deep down everyone wants your god or is empty without it, but it just isn't so.

Even if there is a God, it is obvious that he does not need your help -- you need not waste your energies in his defence. If God is, he surely is good; and if god is good, the good have nothing to fear -- neither in this world, nor in the next.

The truth is, that no human being knows anything of what is beyond death. No honest man ever came back from death, to give us an authentic testimony on this subject. Upon this question, chimpanzees and cardinals, apes and popes, priests and paupers, are upon exact equality. All the churches in the world know no more on this subject than the smallest ant on the ant-hills.

But know this, that the dead do not suffer. We are all children of the same mother and the same fate awaits us all. The kindest and the noblest faith tells us that death, even at its worst, is only perfect sleep. So, let us leave the dead with nature. Under the bow of hope, let the dead sleep. All we can do is: "Help for the living, and Hope for the dead".

As for me, I have travelled but too little - only in this world. I do not pretend to know, but I know for certain that no one knows. But one thing I do know, that neither greed, nor fear, nor belief, nor unbelief, can change the fact. It was as it must have been, it is as it is, and it will be as it must be.

Sorry, Pious, I was made in the image of God, with a spirit inside, not something produced by a long line of animals. It is the spirit inside us that lives forever, whether with God or not. And if we have Jesus in our lives, He brings the Holy Spirit into our hearts as a witness to His reality...

And your statement, which sounds good, is in error. Mainly I'm thinking where you say "If God is, He surely is good, and if God is good, the good have nothing to fear -- neither in this world, not in the next." Well, even the good have things to fear if they do not accept what God's given them - the gift of forgiveness through His Son, Jesus Christ! Goodness, in all reality, means nothing if not done in God's name, and thru His Son. It is but filthy rags to God. That's the whole reason we need forgiveness. No one can "follow" all the rules all of the time. No, not one has done that, except Jesus.

And how do you know that the dead do not suffer? Frankly if you feel there's no way to know anything that's beyond death, then how on earth do you know whether the dead suffer?

The Holy Spirit that is given to us Christians, let's us know FOR SURE, what we have in store. Granted, we may not have all the details, but we KNOW where we're going and we know it's going to be wonderful!

Report as
@MarS..: Sorry. Your superstitious belief is too vague for me to accept, or even to put a merit into it. You have yet not proved who Jesus really was. It is certain that man cannot have propriety over man. If Jesus was god, he couldn't have died. If Jesus was man, he couldn't redeem. It is as simple as that.
Report as
Jesus was God incarnate.
Report as
Hi again, Pious - that's okay - even the bible says that to the world, the good news about Jesus is foolishness. If you continue to refuse Him, that's your choice. But Jesus did not come to PROVE Himself to us. He came to seek and save the lost. God doesn't have to prove Himself. Actually, who does "man" think he is, demanding God to prove Himself? How arrogant.

Yet at the same time, God CHOSE to "give himself" to us (through Jesus) so that we can be reconciled to Him. A free pardon, and a free request to us from God to come to Him and get to know Him. It's amazing how much He loves us - anyway - regardless!
And by the way, Jesus' BODY died, but He was risen again and is alive today! He is God in the flesh!
Have a good one, Pious...
Report as
Jesus received a "new, heavenly" body when He arose. One that could walk through walls, yet could eat fish. When our spirits goes to heaven, we'll receive new bodies, too. Boy am I looking forward to that!!! 8^)
Report as
Oh, and by the way, Jesus does not need to prove Himself. He requires us to ask Him in, and AFTER we do that, He WILL begin to prove to us that He's real and He loves us. But not until then. I guess it takes a little humility, or submission, to think I may not know it all, and if it could be that He really is real, then I want to take that chance and ask Him...

Lefty - what you're hearing is not true. We're made up of three different "parts" - the spirit (which is what relates to God), the soul (the main place of our minds and emotions) and the body - well, you know that part.

Our spirits live forever. With God or without God, one or the other, your choice. Living without God and separate from God is what we call hell.

But to live WITH God for eternity (in heaven), we all have to make a choice. Choose God, or choose the world (which is run by the devil). God or Satan. ONLY those two choices. Sometimes the problem is that we cannot "see" God or the devil, so it's kinda hard to believe in either. The ONLY way to be able to see is to ask God's Son, Jesus, to forgive us, and to come into our lives. If we ask sincerely, He will come in. Your spirit will then be able to communicate with God - more and more as time goes by, and we learn to "hear" Him. THAT'S when we KNOW God is real. THAT's when He proves Himself to us! No other way to do it.
And sitting on the fence between two is actually making a decision NOT to follow God - yuck! Think about it Lefty. Decide for yourself. He loves you and is longing for you to make the right decision...
Report as
Lefty, we won't have a conscious anymore. You won't think anything.
... also don't listen to Mar, she only wants you to believe because of her religion (don't believe and you burn in hell).

Mar, I think that's enough pressure for him, don't you think?
Report as
Alpha - you're pushing the opposite direction, so when you point a finger at me, look at yourself also, okay? You totally believe what you say, but I do too, and I have the right to share MY beliefs, too...

He asked a question, and I answered it. I have nothing to gain no matter WHAT Lefty decides. He's the one that would gain. It's HIS choice. Just like it's your choice to NOT believe.

Report as
I'm just saying that this religion can put pressure on him if you convince him that it may all be true (believe or burn in hell). And I don't want him to have that. I do realize that you can share your beliefs, but you can't tell them what's not true just because of your religion. Your religion is not consider facts, that's why it's a BELIEF. There's no evidence, no proof. Nothing! Also, I didn't choose to become an atheist btw. I didn't choose to believe what I believe. I didn't choose ANYTHING!.. Wouldn't this mean that there is no fence?

Also, didn't I tell you why some people "feel his presence" and some don't?

I don't know, but I'm not going to lie about it like they do. I could make something up and write it in a book, I could force my strange beliefs on my 15 kids and attempt to make numbers justify my lie, I could make threats to easily scared people about eternal misery after death and try to make them think its the only alternative to what I believe but I'm not a deceitful opportunist clawing my way into peoples hearts. Warrior - what's the matter with you? I don't lie. I don't threaten. And I don't bully. There's others on here that feel the same on here. Why on earth are you lumping all of us into one failure?
I don't force my opinion on anyone, any more than you just forced yours - with anger and putdowns. I'm not trying to "lure" anyone anywhere. It profits me NOTHING to post ANY of this on here. Indeed, quite the opposite! Sometimes I get really frustrated trying to share the Truth, with all the people coming back with anger and spite.

This is MY opinion, Warrior. I totally believe it. And you wonder WHY and HOW could I believe it? I believe it ONLY because I (finally) gave in when I was 32 years old and took the step that all of us need to take to be re-connected to God. I wasn't sure, but I had absolutely nothing to lose. So I asked forgiveness (and at 32 there was a lot to forgive), and asked Jesus, if He was real, to come into my life and teach/show me. He did. And THAT is when I REALLY started to believe - because once He came in, He began to prove to me that He is alive and true and loving. I have no doubt about it. The longer I've walked with Him, the more I know about Him, the more I trust Him and the stronger my total belief strengthens. You can't know and believe He's real unless you invite Him in (sincerely) first, and ask Him to teach you. THAT's when it become real to you, and not before. No assurance before. But after - whoa, what a wonderful thing!
Report as
UnholyWarrior, you have ALL my respect.

If this doesn't concern you marsch then why are you defending your self? I made no mention of any political party, faith or even names. The most specific denotation of a group of people I used is "they." If this describes you, and so you responded to say it does not- I think you just defeated your purpose here.
Report as
Alan- It should come to no surprise to you that my former account was "truthisobvious." And as do you mine Alpha :)
Report as
Warrior, usually "they" all - and you were referring to people who believe in God and Heaven. You said, "threats to easily scared people about eternal misery after death and try to make them think its the only alternative to what I believe but I'm not a deceitful opportunist" Sounds like lumping all people who Believe together, which would include me. I am not defending myself, but I don't like being included with the few oddballs that lie about this or make threats, as you say. How on EARTH can you think that all Christians lie? Even if you don't believe, you think we're LYING to get you to believe the same way we do? What would we possibly gain by that. Quite the opposite - coming up against people like you, when we're trying to share what we consider to be very important to everyone - is not an easy thing at all. Taking the lumps and criticism, the name-calling, etc., is really hard sometimes. And having people call me stupid and lying, and coniving, and "clawing my way into people's hearts", as you said. That hurts, when my intentions are honorable. If you don't like talking about God and Heaven, then for pete's sake stay of those string that do! We have a right to be here and answer with OUR opinions, too. I don't call YOU name (except sometimes when I get riled up, but not usually). How about a little respect here?
Report as
Marsch- please notice that I never specify any target group- not even "believers." If you are not included in the description then you have no business defending that way of operation. I'm truly sorry if you identify with the description I used, its not any way I'd like to be living. Perhaps you need to show your self a little respect. If you do lie to people, on purpose or not, that doesn't excuse you from lying if you are ignorant of it but it does behoove you to get educated so you do not lie, or have some humility to not speak when you simply do not know.
I understand full well that proselytizing is done in the spirit of altruism, unfortunately the religions being proselytized, like what I'm describing, are absolute poison for our real humanity. I simply cannot stand by and watch my planet destroyed by people ignorant of the destruction they wrought. Its an unfortunate side effect that people's feelings get hurt some times- that is far from what I want, but more is at stake than the lack of cognitive dissonance of many who fail to be free from delusion.
Notice, I'm not calling anyone anything, I'm merely describing an archetype that I am not and protesting my humility to admit I do not know and that its obvious that n one else does either.
The dead do not speak sir or ma'am, and so we should not speak for them.

Report as
There are no other realistic ways that life could happen. You ARE real? interesting...that implies that God DOES exist!
Report as
no it doesn't. There isn't even an easy way to link those to events. God clearly doesn't have to exist for me to be here- there is NO evidence of a god anywhere around me.and yet here I am,
Report as
YOU are proof of God's existence. I am proof of God's existence. EVERYTHING AROUND US is proof of god's existence. How do we know that ancient civilizations existed, and what they were like? By what they left behind: the cities they built, the pottery they molded, the sculptures they carved. "NO, that intricate temple was OBVIOUSLY eroded out of the rock! Those statues were just randomly assembled from dust over thousands of years. Those cave paintings were scratched onto the walls when a rock slide occurred! DUH! Obviously PEOPLE coulldn't have made them? Where's the proof of that! That's like believing in fairies!!!"
We can see God's fingirprint in all his works.
People have become so blinded. We don't use the great mind' God has given us to realize the OBVIOUS.
Just think about it. When you really study Biology, the human body and how it works, the way EVERYTHING fits together so perfectly and works in such harmony, it really takes a lot more faith to believe that we just HAPPENED. That is just absurd!
Report as
believing in god is like believing in fairies. Science tells us about the past.

Actually biology makes the greatest case against god. The body is not perfect at all, its quite obviously ad hoc engineering giving further evidence for evolution. The most damning evidence is that we have vestigial organs. Why would the perfect creator of the universe do such sloppy, shotty work?

God: "oh I think I'll make some useless organs in my most prized creation, organs that quite clearly would have done something in previous stages of evolution but do nothing now. I'll This is going to be hilarious making the scientists believe in evolution so I can burn them in hell haha"
Report as
oh really, you call the human body sloppy? That's ridiculous. Even with all our years of technology we haven't yet been able to make something anywhere close to being as complex and efficient as the human brain. Structures such as the appendix actually do serve purposes, or at least did at one time or another while we were developing as an embryo. And by saying that believing in God is like believing in fairies, you further demonstrated the point I am trying to make. Believing that there were ancient civilizations before us, such as the Mayans, etc. Is like believing in fairies, according to your logic.
Report as
look at photosynthesis and cellular respiration. Why do they fit together so perfectly? Oh, because plants just HAPPENED to evolve a way of taking the carbon dioxide that animals use in cellular respiration, to help make the sugar and oxygen that animals need for their cellular respiration. And look at the processes in detail. Enzymes and proteins that have to PERFECTLY fit their substrates, and only work at A CERTAIN temperature, because otherwise they get denatured. And the way the H+ gets PUMPED out of the membrane, solely for the purpose of building up, and being defused back in through proteins, making ATP for the cell. That sounds like a VERY smart mechanic at work, not 'natural selection'
Report as
We actually have evidence of ancient civilizations- we have as much evidence for god as we do fairies. Not even a toe nail clipping from god. You need only study human biology to see how innocuous it is to say the human body is sloppy. We are quite clearly not made by any perfect standard but rather a mess illustrating the process of evolution.

And that biology lesson you just gave sounds like exactly the stuff natural selection does. It appropriates to its surroundings. !000 new models and only one survives to reproduce- and reproduce it does, so prolifically under these conditions that it almost looks perfect. We know it was a random individual thriving under a specific circumstance.

Its not a miracle that only one of the sample could have survived- its natural selection that 999 did not.

The reason you are thinking that there is no God, Jesus or heaven is because Satan is whispering in your ear. He is trying to get you into hell!!!
