Never, thanks to nuclear weapons there will never again be a major world war. The result would be so devastating that it's just not worth it. "Mutually Assured Destruction" has kept us alive all these years, without nukes we would've probably already had WW3. If we were to have a WW3 with nukes, the next war after that would be fought with clubs and rocks (paraphrasing Einstein). The Soviet Union is gone but China is still communist, however I don't see them going to war with us over something like Taiwan and losing their biggest customer for their cheap junk.
I don't share the 'never' train of thinking. That's what they said about WWI, the "war to end all wars". I think it's viable to have a war involving many countries on each side without any country pushing the button. There's been wars all over the world since WWII without anyone using a nuke. It's very possible.
