My sister-in-law announced yesterday that she is getting married next Friday. Naturally, she wants her mother to be there.
The problem is that she lives 6 hours away, and my MIL is not in the best of health. I have been invited to the wedding as well, but I'm no fool.... I know it's just so I will drive "Mom" to and from Indiana. I have been told that I can sleep on their sofa, as they will have other houseguests(!). I have agreed to drive "Mom"... with a caveat. I will pay for my own motel room for the weekend, will NOT attend the wedding or reception, and I absolutely MUST be back home by Saturday afternoon as I have plans with two of my nieces (going to meet some of the Robertsons from Duck Dynasty!). I'm no fool: I know exactly what the happy couple thinks of me, and for me to attend their wedding would be hypocritical on all parts.
My question is: Am I being unreasonable, or trying to do what is expected of me without putting myself in an uncomfortably awkward situation? Does anyone have any better solutions to my quandary?
