What is your favorite,or most enjoyable part of being a missionary?

Report as

If I had been a missionary my favourite part would be the stories I could collect.

I once met an elderly missionary who, as a young woman, had gone to the boondocks of Indonesia and was stationed in a small village. There were no amenities in the village and all the villagers used the river for their ablutions. Nudity meant nothing to them.

Well, the missionary wasn't going to go down that particular path and she sponged herself as well as she could but Indonesia is a very hot place. She said that as the days went by she became smellier and smellier until, after a fortnight, she decided to risk it.

She watched the villagers for a couple of days and realised that bathing in the river was such a natural thing for them to do that nobody seemed to notice. So one morning, just after dawn, she went to the river, stripped, and bathed.

But nobody had ever seen a WHITE woman do it before and the ent ire village -- men, women and children -- turned out to watch.

Eventually they all got used to each other.

She told that story in 1960 and I never forgot her. :-)

Dozy:)
You still haven't told me why a challis (or a grail not necessarily the holy one) is embedded in your Icon!!!

No chalice that I'm aware of, Don. My granddaughter took the photograph but I duplicated it then added horns and halo ... but no chalice and no grail.

Ok take your time. Draw a horizontal line to join the summit of the heads. Then trace the outline of the pictures that face each other. Finally draw another horizontal line joining the tip of the two chins. Last but by no means least Colour the enclosed space GOLD.

Stop joking Dodgy. Do not dodge around please. This is not Windmill stuff:)

What is that challis doing there? I am convinced you are not related to Da Vinci. What is that Grail doing there?

That's very perceptive of you, Don. I hadn't noticed it. A blue chalice. (I think the grail was a plate and the Holy Grail that plate from which Christ ate at the Last Supper -- which would have been a bit Da Vinci.)

The Dodgy/Dozy thing is getting a bit confusing. One of the mods offered to switch names with my other account a few days ago, giving me back my original name. (I had to abandon that account because of technical problems.) Then, this afternoon, I noticed that I was Dodgy again. That's even more confusing than the chalice which has appeared so mystically in my avatar.

Thanks for pointing it out. :)

I did not know the Grail was a plate but another word for challis.

Just checked Grail; a plate, a stone a cup. The grail on Da Vinci painting was actually the Cup just like your Challis.

Thanks you too.

I'm not one but it is not easy. My friend goes into jungles to witness to tribes that have not been visited. His white skin has saved him many a time.
They think he is a god until he teaches them truth.
The food he eats is horrid. But they think it is a delicacy. He once was served a fat baked rat with its feet sticking straight up.
YES ... He ate it.

I have been on a week mission trip with church and loved getting to work with the kids. We taught a dance camp for a week and had devotions every day which was great. I learned a bunch from that trip and was thankful to be able to go.

My family and I are from the USA. We moved to Mexico in 2010 to preach the word of God to individuals here. We travel throughout Mexico going into areas that are remote and speaking to all people. For me personally, I just gain so much satisfaction from sharing all of the truths of the Bible with people. When I see their face light up as they learn something new I get as excited as they do. Many years ago, these truths were shared with me. Jesus said that we received free so we should give free (Matthew 10:8). So, in turn, I freely share these with others and even provide them with Bibles in their own language (without cost to them) if they do not have one. This is the best career any individual can have. I personally have very little when it comes to material possessions or money and yet I have never been more satisfied in life. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share this.
