Why does God need a blood scarifice for salvation?

Report as

I like renglemsr's answer.
The truth is, back in the days of the 3rd century BCE to about the 5th century CE the Roman empire was running rampant with man/god savours that sacrificed themselves to save mankind. Constantine needed a glue to hold his empire together and he found that in christianity. He molded it to fit into the lines of the mystery cults of Mithras, Horus, Osiris and such. The idea that Jesus had sacrificed himself had already been started by people like Paul and Marcion (which may or may not have been one in the same person). So Constantine adopted christianity as the state religion set doctrine and created a holy book of writings at and after the council of Nicaea that resembled these mystery cults. They sifted through mountains of books, letters (epistles) and writings said to have been from followers of Jesus and chose those that best fit their agenda. That's why God needed a blood sacrifice, because Christianity is a copy of older messianic religions.

Life is in the blood. The second the blood flow stops .. Death occurs.
Sin = death.
Blood covers or atones sin & death.
BUT....
Jesus gave His blood to cover our sin so we do not ever need blood sacrifice again.

Sin is so terrible that the penalty is our lives. We all sin, so we all deserve to die. God created life, so he has the right to punish us by taking it. Jesus died to take our punishment of death, and if we trust in him we put our trust in him we can be saved.

We're not exactly operating from the high ground here, if a sacrifice, a human sacrifice no less, is the answer to a moral issue. I can understand people believing that in the first century but not in 2013. The sooner people can shed this stone aged thinkining we can move forward as a society. People spend too much time in the land of make-believe.

@MichaelRAllen: Sorry to get off topic, but you made a statement as fact which needs to be addressed. You wrote, "Study the truth of mutations, they don't work together for the good of the organism. They hurt it." That is true in many ways. Science does not say evolution is always for the better of the organism. The prime objective of evolution has always been to get a life form to the point that it propagates its species. Beyond that, evolution basically loses interest.

Take the design of the male body for instance. Evolution has kluged it together in such a way that the urethra passes through the middle of the prostate gland. The prostate begins to enlarge in virtually all men after the optimal age of procreation has passed, and if not for other forms of morbidity, virtually all men would eventually die of prostate cancer.

Evolution's lack of interest in older age is why humans begin to suffer more and more congenital defects after the age of thirty which leads to ever increasing mortality rates. Our intelligence has allowed us to both decrease and accelerate that increase. Just wanted to clarify your statement so there is no misunderstanding about the science behind evolution.

God doesn't need anything from us. When we sin, it is our own blood we shed. His forgiveness would be our salvation.

He doesn't ... None of the Prophets before Jesus were known to have preached this concept, nor were any other beliefs or rituals based upon them. Rather, salvation from Hell was achieved through the belief in One God and obedience to His commandments which was preached by all prophets.

This sacrifice would be nothing other than the sacrifice of God himself, incarnate in His "son" Jesus. Therefore Christianity deems all of humanity as damned to Hell for the sin of Adam , Which we are not responsible for ...

So the questions arise, is humanity guilty for the sin which Adam committed by eating from the tree he was forbidden? Must we all repent from that great sin which we didn't commit ?

That's why prophets been given special powers DUH!!! Each prophets has his own unique power only to prove that a bigger force is out there which is off course God's force and power. Yes indeed Musa split the sea and yes indeed Jesus has the ability to cure illness. For God's sake you think who made this whole world can't give someone special powers we see it as a big deal but comparing to how this world been made it's almost normal. It's simple really but your mind choose not to see it, which is fine cause you have been given the free will after all. I wonder how are you going to react when you hear about how powerful the angels are and how they were built ^^ Believeing in something or not doesn't make it true that's right BUT what if the problem was that you are serounded by clues only you refuse to accept their explenation! where does that leave you?

That is called Miracle which it is an extraordinary act or event that is contrary to the laws of nature and can only come about through the direct intervention of God Almighty Himself.

He doesn't anymore. Jesus became our blood sacrifice once and for all. It also opened up the holy of holies to regular people, not just high priest. The only sacrifice He wants is your love.

That God wanted blood is at the bottom of Salvation. This savage "inspiration", that blood appeases god, has its origin in the horrible declaration of biblical god in Hebrews 9:22: "Without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins".

Under the mosaic dispensation the Jews pacified Jehovah with the blood of animals for remission of a crime. The greater the crime, the greater the sacrifice -- the more blood, the greater the atonement. Every priest was a butcher, and every church a slaughter-house.

According to the Christian system, the last phase of this belief in sacrifice was, that God accepted the blood of his son, and that after murdering his son, he, God, was satisfied, and wanted no more blood. It is claimed that the blood of Jesus softened the heart of God but a little, and rendered possible the salvation of a credulous few. And, in this way the justice of God, and the law of love was satisfied, satiated, surfeited.

But, I ask, be honor bright, what moral man, who ever thinks with his own brain, can believe that only blood could appease God? And yet, the system of Christianity stands upon this belief. Nothing could be more utterly shocking to a civilized and loving soul. It is hard to conceive how the human mind can give assent to such terrible ideas -- to such most fearful savagery, or how any honest man can still believe in the divine inspiration of the Bible?

DonQuixote

There is good reason to think albeit sacrilegiously that God was a carnivore.

!; He asked for Isaac to be sacrificed. 2; He accepted Abel's meaty sacrifice and declined the vegetarian sacrifice of Cain. 3; Instead of smearing dough he preferred blood to guide the Angel of death to murder Egyptian first born.4; He sacrificed his own Son for salvation.

In some other places animal sacrifices were practised long before Christianity was exported there. Could it be the same God or man has something inherent about appeasing the deity?

He doesnt any more. But the shedding of blood has long been considered an act of cleansing. Right up until the ninteenth century doctors bled patients to rid them of 'poison' blood and evil vapors. Blood is life. To shed the blood of an animal without blemish was a symbolic giving of life to cleanse away the blemish of sin. One life for another. The animals sacrifice washed away the 'death' sin lay on a humans soul. Shedding of Jesus blood was the final symbolic 'washing' away of human sin, the 'death blemish' of sin that separated God from humanity forever gone. Not that sin was washed from the world but the barrier to Gid it represented was forever destroyed by Jesus ultimate selfless act of love. Since then no blood sacrifice has been necessary.

"the life of the flesh is in the blood "(Leviticus 17:11, 14). Here God tells us that life and blood are essentially one and the same. The blood carries life-sustaining nutrients to all parts of the body. It represents the essence of life. In contrast, the shedding of blood represents the shedding of life, i.e. death. Blood is also used in the Bible to represent spiritual life. When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden by disobeying God and eating fruit of the forbidden tree, they experienced spiritual death immediately, and physical death years later. God's warning, "You shall not eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. For in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die" (Genesis 2:17) was fulfilled. Their blood-their lives-were now tainted by sin. In His gracious plan, however, God provided a "way out" of their dilemma by declaring that sacrifices of blood, first the blood of animals and finally the blood of the Lamb of God (Jesus Christ), would be sufficient to cover the sin of fallen mankind and restore us to spiritual life.Contrary to bloodless religions, it takes sin seriously, indicating that God takes sin seriously and gives a death penalty for it. Sin is not a small matter. It is the simple sin of pride that turned Lucifer into a demon. It was the simple sin of jealousy that caused Cain to slay Abel, etc. And in Adam and Eve eating the forbidden fruit, they believed the deceiver over a good and loving God, choosing to rebel against His love and denying the goodness of His character. Christianity is a bloody religion because it views sin as a holy God views it-seriously.

This is Old Testament thinking. Jesus WAS the final sacrifice. Since that moment, we entered into a NEW covenant with God. Lucky for us right? Can you imagine how wrecked we would be if we lived under the guideline of the old covenant?...lol Now, if you seek to wash your sin away ('forgiveness') you simply have to ask (and mean it).

I guess it's obvious that I'm not understanding this question?
I seen the questions that you put forth to renglems earlier in this thread. Going off the fact that you don't believe the stories of the Bible, you think Adam and Eve were a 'myth' I just want to throw an idea at you. What if the Bible were given to you to be used as a guideline itself? What if God uses Jesus as an 'mediator' for humans (being that there is NO Way that our human brain can understand divinity). What if the story of Jesus was given to us so that we can 'relate'?
The more I learn, read and interpret I, myself, am leaning toward 'non-dual' thinking. I believe the stories of the Bible were given to us for a reason although I try to be very careful to pay attention as to how Man interprets them. I think we humans have given way too much power to 'evil' and not kept our eyes on what really matters. But that's my journey, and it's not over yet.

In the story jesus followed the law of moses. which as a rabbi he was required to do. "what if" questions dont really help us to understand the reality in front of us. many scriptures were given to many cultures as a guide to a higher plane of thought and life. theres no one special premier scripture over another. they are all stories meant to elevate the spiritual consciousness of the reader. my point is its a story ...its not real.
