close ur eyes and just walk down the hallway and get straight to ur classes, and then when ur walking home close ur eyes when ur coming out the class..i don't mean like really close ur eyes, i'm saying just look at the hallway and nothing,,,like ur friends, girls, freaks, nerds just ignore them all...(if u wanna completely 100% avoid distractions?) lol

Ya'll are confusing me. When you pose that question "what's the smartest way to avoid distractions" it's real REAL simple. CHOOSE to remain loyal to what you know best. Personally I hated trying to stay focused on my text msgs on my iphone and school kept distracting me (Grin)

I can say that long winded dissertation in one word "self discipline"

Weigh your pros and cons. If your cons outweigh your pros, chances are you're more likely to fail your classes. Ask yourself this: "Is it worth talking, goofing off, checking out the opposite sex, or is getting my diploma the goal here?" You'll be amazed at the satisfying results.

Honestly.... just accept that highschool sucks ASS but it's crucial for any future success you wish to have so just know that it will be over soon and worth it. the smartest way to avoid distractions depends on the person... Anything from wearing a rubberband around your wrist and popping yourself when you notice yourself losing focus, or you might have ADHD and needs meds, or you may not be getting challenged enough... take an IQ test and with the right score, you could go straight to college and skip the bullshit

Good point... Some of those "cool" people are gunna be the people that are the biggest failures in life.... Surround yourself with smart and loyal people, and you'll be amazed at all the opportunities that are gunna open up for you. The main reason we get distracted in school is because it's either boring or not challenging. You can get over the boring factor, but if you're not feeling challenged, you may subconsciously resent the work you're given and have NO desire to do it out of spite... that's how I felt, anyways...

What is really helping me right now is having a goal. Along with that goal, I plan a reward. So while I'm working on the ultimate goal I'm looking forward to the way I'll treat myself once I achieve it. I myself used to get really distracted in my earlier years, but this has really helped.

The optimum way to avoid distractions is to focus on a goal and actively work hard to achieve it while motivating each day of the benefits thereof. It's about focusing energy towards positive change and grounding in the necessary support needed through beneficial and supportive relationships.

A wise person will not fall when times are tough because they will have the strength of mind, body and spirit to overcome even the toughest obstacles and learn something profound in the process.

Beware of false pretenses. They are the road to a meaningless existence.

All the best and good luck on your sacred journey.

Remind yourself that you are trying to learn from school. Don't think of class as a waste of time. Try to absorb what the teacher is saying and gain information. If you try to learn, then the topic will become more interesting and you will not get distracted.

Im in 9tg grade heading to 10th but what helps me is music.I put on my favorite music on blast and i go to class.then i put it.on low so.i can.still hear it and hear the teacher. If it gets loud (in the classroom) put it on blast.you'll be in your zone

Why? I thought it was good to make friends in high school.

Make friends yes. But don't go out with them. Have friends inside the campus, but after school live your own life. You've a very good and sensible advice from 1dedicatedfan you might want to follow the advice.

You have to have some social life in high school but the best way to avoid distractions is to get to your classes before others do and don't talk in the hallways.

Im in high school too and my mum and dad told me what to do because I want a good job and pass my year 9 exams next year. Just think about your life without education, you wouldnt have a job , not much money and you have less chance of getting a job. My big brother was a brat in school and didnt do good and look at him now 24 year old still living at parents with a almost 2 year old son, working at Asda with a little car, he admits that he wished he did good in school. Okay, so while your in class keep thinking about life with education, a good job, lots of money, a free life, your own house, a nice car, a nice holiday here and there and a wealthy family . This should help you lots, since last year ive got a level higher in most of my subjects so I suggest you keep your head down and get on with your work. Also dont get with the people who have partys at the weekend drinking, my 14 year old cousin went a few and had sex which lead to her getting pregnant, giving birth at 15 and missed most of her last year (important exams) so her results are bad. Just think about the future.

Normally hallway wise I put my headphones in and just go. As for in class pay attention. I can't lie and say everything your teacher says is important but you really have to find out for your self how to pay attention and avoid things in class.

Well, the way I see it is that high school WILL always have distractions no matter what and they're really just "tests" to see how prepare you are to be focus so my advice is to "expect everything and imagine all possibilities" so, just be prepare.
