How can I get my laptop (HP Envy Touchsmart) to recognize my phone as a device?

It recognizes some things, like my Xbox and my old phone, but won't recognize my android phone when I plug it in using a usb cable. It's just a windows computer, and I've messed with all of the settings on my phone and computer for 3 hours straight! I did try restarting my computer and phone as well. Should I reconfigure my computer or what else can I do? Help...

You could try downloading the drivers for your phone manually and installing them onto the computer. Usually, windows is suppose to find the drivers on its own and install them to recognize the device. If the phone is a newer model, it might not have the right drivers to do that.

Do you know how I can download the drivers, or where?

What kind of phone are you using? If it's major manufacturer, you can go to their website. Like if it's a Samsung phone, go to the Samsung site and look under the support section, put in the model number, and then look under downloads. There will often be drivers there. Try to get it from the manufacturer site first because you don't want to trust downloads from other pages (might not be the correct drivers and/or a virus/trojan/malware).

btw you're an origami bird killer. =P

Could it be the plug that you're using, just isn't working?

Make sure you have the right software and better yet ask a Xbox customer service assistant they should know the best..
