Do some Christians cuss?

Report as

Yes, because we are sinners along with everyone else. Christian aren't perfect and we often fall sort of the glory of God.
Thankfully God is a merciful forgiver.

I don't cuss

Good for you but some Christians do struggle with cussing.
Just like people have problems with lying or doing drugs or etc.
It's just a problem of the heart.
But God can forgive anything.

ive never said a swear word (out loud :) )
with that said.. my fave Christians are real.. drink beer.. swear.. are honest with themselves and others.
live who they are.. not pretend..
for some.. this takes time and lots of life
id rather hang with real.. than "gerbal cage" Christians.. churchyites
not that its a requirement to be real.. but more often than not.. its part of the package

Not suppose to. Um. I never really cussed even when I wasn't christian. A person who can't talk without it, isn't and doesn't sound intelligent at all. And if you don't believe, record a conversation with someone who uses the f bomb every other word. Then really listen to it. Um, this is something my Grandpa told me when I was young and he caught me cussing. It stuck, and so not really a problem I have articulating things without cussing. I know some Christians slip, but if they use all the time they are not walking with the Lord. So, they may say they are christians, more like was until they get right with the Lord again. You shall know a mans heart by the fruit he produces. It's not Christ like, therefore you know were he stands in his walk.

Christians are a work in progress. They are guilty of a lot of things. Doesn't make OK. Christians come to God and repent and ask forgiveness and help to become like Christ who walked the earth as a man and didn't sin. God said this is my son(Jesus) whom I am well pleased. Jesus said if seen me you've seen the Father. Christians want to please God like Jesus here on earth but can't on their own. They need His help. God forgives sin only through His son who was sent, for our benefit, to pay the price for sin... So yes Christians might cuss. Not Christ-like tho & Its a sin.

Ephesians 4:31 - "?Let all malicious bitterness and anger and wrath and screaming and abusive speech be taken away from YOU along with all badness."

Colossians 3:8 - "But now really put them all away from YOU, wrath, anger, badness, abusive speech, and obscene talk out of YOUR mouth."

It is clear that the bible says we should not cuss. I agree with these scriptures. Sometimes it takes for a person to really think about what they are going to say before they say it. If a person is making a habit of this then they are not following bible counsel.

Yes some Christians cuss. Does that make it right? No. Should they do it? No. However remember no matter what, we (as a people), should not judge someone who does cuss. Remember all sin is equal and we haves sinned too. Also remember that Jesus said "those who are without sin may cast the first stone". None of us are without sin, so no one can judge.

God changes us. We could cuss like a sailer before our rebirth, but after that our mouth will be Colgate clean. We may slip up a couple times, but the Spirit convicts in such a way that we will feel horrible every time we sin before God and eventually it will stop all together, whatever sin it is.

I love this example in James, where he's saying that Christians should not be known for a tendency to swear. His analogy of salt water and fresh water coming from the same spring (which is completely unnatural) shows how unnatural it would be for a Christian to praise God one minute and cuss someone out the next. If that seems really weird, it's supposed to. It is not natural for a true believer to curse-at least, it shouldn't be.

Some do. But Jehovah God's word the Bible says at Psalms 34:13 "Safeguard your tongue against what is bad..." As sinful humans we at times let our emotions overwhelm us. Still we shouldn't allow ourselves to lose control. God's word tells us just how much pain a sharp tongue causes. "For every species of wild beast as well as bird & creeping thing & sea creature is to be tamed by humankind. But the tongue, not one of mankind can get it tamed. An unruly injurious thing, it is full of death-dealing poison. With it we bless Jehovah, even the Father, & yet with it we curse men who have come into existence 'in the likeness of God.' Out of the same mouth come forth blessing & cursing. It is not proper, my brothers, for these things to go on occurring this way. A fountain does not cause the sweet & the bitter to bubble out of the same opening does it? My brothers, a fig tree cannot produce olives or a vine fig, can it? Neither can salt water produce sweet water."-James 3:7-12. We are encouraged at Ephesians 4: 29 "Let a rotten saying not proceed out of YOUR mouth. But whatever saying is good for building up as the need may be, that it may impart what is favorable to the hearers."

I'm pretty good about not doing it, I just don't understand what makes them "bad words"
Report as
What makes them bad is how your heart is when you use them. If you are saying the f word to someone intending to hurt their feelings of if you are angry then its a sin. It's just a matter of not having nasty language come out of your mouth.
Report as
But how is your heart feeling bad your fault, when sometimes someone else might cause that?
That's their fault, not the person using the words
Report as
I think that you are in control of your heart no matter what someone says to you. You can choose to be hurt or you can know that you are a cherished Child of God and that you are perfect in His eyes.
Report as
I understand that I think, but the "shameful words" don't always have to be used in a negative context
Report as
I agree with that. Like I said I think it depends on how your heart is when you are saying it. They really are just words that were turned into something negative. The way you say it depends on if it's bad.

Where was he when those 3 girls went missing for 10 years? Letting them suffer in a hole. Where was he on D-Day? Was he helping the Germans? Because on that belt buckle on a German WW2 soldier that scripture said "In God We Trust" so who's side was he helping? Because Hitler was a Catholic. Where was he on Sandy Hook? He let a maniac kill 20 kids and 3 adults God didn't kill him the maniac killed himself. Where is he when little kids get molested or raped by child molesters and sex offenders? Where is he when events like this happen? So what your trying to tell me is I should worship someone who can save us when he doesn't? Like that's happening these are my beliefs of you have a problem take it somewhere else I don't care what you think of me these are my beliefs and your trying to make me feel bad for having them and trying to force me to change them. I thought Christians were supposed to be open minded and kind and accepting no matter what anyone's beliefs are. I guess that's one big lie.
Report as
I'm not trying to change your mind about anything and I think you and I both know that you just said that to try and make my upset. I'm just telling you the truth about God that is my only effort here is to try to show you that there is someone who loves you without ending. People will fail you but God is constant. The truth is that He is always there. But He also did say that there would be trials in life. There is evil in this world and that is why wicked things like that happen. But God is there with every person through it all. Yes, it is so unfair to kids who have things like that happen to them. But this world is cursed and an unsafe place.
Report as
Your absolutely right about this earth. But if God really loved the world then why doesn't he prove it? So he can help the middle class families and the higher class families but he can't help 33 teenage boys who were molested, raped, sexually tortured, by the hands of John Gacy or a.k.a. "The Killer Clown" yes this maniac was real he dressed like a clown when he would commit these crimes. Look him up if you don't believe me type in "John Wayne Gacy"
Report as
I believe you. You know I guess I can't say for sure why God does not prove Himself to people in the way that we want Him to, I'm not God, thank goodness I would screw everything up lol. God is showing that He loves this world, I just think that a lot of times we are too ignorant and busy to realize it...
Report as
In my belief he doesn't care about us. If religious nut heads say they'll accept anyone no matter who they are or regardless of what their beliefs are then that's one of the biggest lies told ever.
Report as
Well God tells me in His word that I am supposed to love everyone no matter what they believe because He does. Sometimes I struggle with that, but a lot of people who are not religious also struggle with that too. I hope one day that you will see that God cares and that He loves this world, also His love for you is unfathomable.

I would say that's a little harsh. I'm "a real Christian" not even sure what that means. If you have been washed by the blood then you have a relationship with Jesus. We all get tempted and we all have given into temptation. So I think it's mean of you to say that if your a real Christian you don't. That's like saying if your a real Christian you don't sin, and aren't we saved because we are sinners? :)

I know many people who call themselves Christians who cuss. But a true Christian should not. Some people say its because we are imperfect but that is just an excuse as if one couldn't stop cursing if he wanted to.
“Put them all away from you, wrath, anger, badness, abusive speech, and obscene talk out of your mouth.” (Colossians 3:8) “Let fornication and uncleanness of every sort or greediness not even be mentioned among you, just as it befits holy people; neither shameful conduct nor foolish talking nor obscene jesting, things which are not becoming.” (Ephesians 5:3, 4) “Let all malicious bitterness and anger and wrath and screaming and abusive speech be taken away from you.” (Ephesians 4:31) “Let a rotten saying not proceed out of your mouth, but whatever saying is good for building up as the need may be, that it may impart what is favorable to the hearers.”—Ephesians 4:29.“put away all filthiness.” (James 1:21)
God would not ask us to do this if it wasn't possible.

I'm guessing 90% don't. It's strictly forbidden!!! Read the book of Proverbs which tells you all about what you say, and also the words of Jesus. He'll give it to you hard.

Read this:

Matthew 12:35-37 (KJV)

35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.

36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
