US Bank threated lawsuit when overdraft of $30 in 2008 lead to a $992 bill and refusal (DUH!) to pay, anyone else experience this?
I had recently gone to open a bank account and was told that I had a negative balance of $392 through US Bank. I was unaware of this balance because I had closed the account in 2008. I was told that, due to a $30 charge right before I had closed my account, I was then charged an additional $362 in overdraft fees. Once we figured out where the $30 came from, which I thought had already been taken out of my account when I had closed it, they said they were willing to settle the issue and so on. I ended up getting disconnected and was so furious and I had spent an hour on the phone with them, I didn't call back. Today I receive a call stating that the balance was $992 and that US Bank was taking legal action against me to receive this balance. How, within a matter of weeks, can a balance go from $392 to $992? With threats of "thousands of dollars in court costs" and such... has anyone else experienced this ridiculousness?
