What are some good songs to listen to while trying to go to sleep?

Its really loud at my home, I don't have a fan, and I don't care for earplugs.

Report as

Your best bet would be to find soft music with no words. Your mind will try to listen and process the words being sung, keeping your mind awake and preventing actual sleep. Try going for some slow smooth music with little to no variations. The less interesting, the better. If all else fails, find a track with a constant sound, pleasant sound. Like rain or the ocean. :) Good Luck!

Sleep Song:Lay down your head,
And I’ll sing you a lullaby Back to the years,
Of loo-li lai-lay;
And I’ll sing you to sleep…
And I’ll sing you tomorrow…
Bless you with love,
For the road that you go.

May you sail fair,
To the far fields of fortune,
With diamonds and pearls,
At your head and your feet;
And may you need never
To banish misfortune

From my personal playlist called "I'm trying to fall asleep". Not all of these are particularly calm genres, but they are soothing and/or put you in a still mind-set. I'll put the genres/description next to the names

Lykke Li - Possibility [calm, somber]
Assassin's Creed 2 soundtrack - Ezio's Family [ modern symphony]
Borknagar - The Plains of Memories [soft rock, no singing]
Counting Crows - Colorblind [soft somber ballad]
Deftones - U U D D L R L R A B Select Start, Sextape [drone, metalgaze, alternative rock]
Little Dragon - Twice [calm, somber]
Memphis May Fire - The Burden [calm, somber]
Pinback - Loro [post rock]
A Perfect Circle - Pet, 3 Libras [soft rock]
Linkin Park - Krwlng, P5hng Me A-wy, 1 Stp Klosr [i don't know how to describe these but they're awesome]
Gary Jules - Mad World [calm, somber]
Placebo - Drink You Pretty, Sleeping With Ghosts [somber post-rock]

First of all, clear your mind. If you have lots on your mind, sit down before going to bed and write them down and if you have any possible solutions to those problems then write those down. Simply clear your mind. Then write down all of your blessings!! We all have many things to be happy for. Keep that list handy and as the days go by, keep adding to your list of blessings. As you concentrate on counting you will begin falling asleep. It may take a nite or two, but this really works. Plus it makes you realize how rich your life really is when you concentrate on the positive and that you have been taking so many wonderful things for granted. When you wake in the morning, tell yourself how lucky you are to have another beautiful day to live!

When selecting music for sleep, soft music with slow rhythms might be your best choice. Some research shows that listening to relaxing classical music before bed might be particularly effective in improving sleep. In addition, using relaxation techniques (such as yoga and hypnosis) may augment the sleep-promoting effects of soothing music.

A great few songs that my family and I listen to are surprisingly relaxing. It comes actually from a metal artist. He decided one day to make an album that was very pretty, and ambient. Here is a few songs to look up:

Devin Townsend Project - Song: Fly Album: Ghost
Devin Townsend Project - Song: Blackberry Album: Ghost
If you want to hear more, listen to the complete album. It truly is a moving and relaxing album. :) Try considering those. If that doesn't work, I would highly suggest the
"Homedics" White Noise machine.
The Presets are:
White Noise, Rain, Summer Night, Brook, Ocean Waves, Thunder. If that doesn't help, then I don't know what to tell 'ya. Good Luck! I hope my contribution is very helpful towards your dwelling.

White noise- if there is an actual song called white noise then no I don't mean that. I mean just plain white noise, the sound that lulls the fetus to sleep while in the womb. I would look into getting a medium-loud fan, the repetitive and simple sound is a good substitute. As for me, I don't listen to music before bed, but I've found that listening to a chapter a night of an audio book is quite pleasant. If you haven't heard it before, you may grow to look forward to sleeping. I also really enjoy the youtube video "100 ways to love a cat", I find the happiness of it relaxing, but that's probably just me.

Actually there is SOME intelligent metal. Such as: Dream Theater. They are probably the most intelligent people/musicians you can possibly think of with an educated and intelligent mind. Not all metal is "SHUT YOUR FU**CKING FACE!" You have just been brainwashed by how the media puts it into the stereotypical category. Listen to some intelligent music. Progressive Metal. Experimental Metal. The good stuff.
