You do realize, even after the initial purchase of the minis, you're looking at spending at *least* $300 a month PER HORSE just to keep them? That's food, hay, sawdust, and I'm not even including vet costs, farrier costs, or what it would cost to board it (which is closer to $400 each.)

To get $2000 in 11 months you need to get about $200 a month. You can mow 10 lawns a month for $20 each (that's 3 or 4 lawns once a week), but lawns don't need mowed 10 months out of the year. You can do chores, you can muck stalls at the local barn, teach lessons, sell stuff.

Wouldn't have to pay for board though... They'd be staying at my dad's...

Yes, and will your dad be paying for the upkeep? The $300 is sawdust and food, not board. Will your dad be paying for annual vet visits and bi-monthly farrier visits?

Well, I'd be helping him pay... we were thinking that I would pay half and he would pay half... I'd continue mowing lawns and find other chores I could do... like baby sitting...

Okay, well good luck! Horses are a lot of fun but a lot of responsibility. Make **sure** you know a trainer or experienced horse person nearby who can help you if you run into any trouble.

You can babysit ($7-$10 an hour), wash cars ($4-$7 a car), mow lawns ($15-$20 a lawn), tutor younger kids ($15-$20 a half-hour), shovel snow ($7-$12 a house), rake leaves ($7-$12 a yard), if you can play an instrument well you can teach other people how to play ($15-$20 a half-hour), and a lemonade stand (25-50 cents a cup) (I know that's kind of lame). Buy cheap things that look valuable, and sell the things on Craigslist or E Bay for more than what you paid for. If you have things that you don't need or want you can have a sale and sell it all. If you don't get an allowance, ask for one. If you do have an allowance do more chores and ask for a raise. You can also pet sit when people go out of town, if your parents will let you have other people's animals in your house, or you can go to the pet owner's house to take care of the pet(s). You can make $15-$40 a night pet-sitting depending on the animal.

You can buy decent minis for much less than that. Prices on all horses are down. Do you have proper fencing, enclosure, feeding and cleaning equipment? Have you found a good feed source? Hay source? Have you enough hay storage to get you through the winter, especially if its a bad hay year? Minis don't eat tons but they do eat. Name of a good vet? Farrier? Know what vaccinations they need when?
