What is a placenta

A placenta is an organ connecting a growing fetus to the uterine wall to let nutrient uptake, waste removal, and respiration through the mother's blood supply. The placenta generally functions as a fetomaternal organ. It has an average length of 22 cm (9 inch).

it basically links the mom and the baby and it keeps the baby's blood supply separate
